Paul, you are right about money spent. With more money and time we could have gone to dyno more often.

...or buy the aluminum heads and stroke the crank.

Since the failure was caused by a broken valve..the question is, was it a used stock valve? And, what kind of valve springs were used? Are the valve keepers original factory etc? Ford only recommended a max of 5400 rpm for the standard stock component valve train. On the Dyno tests, was there indication of valve float ? All questions that need to be answered to avoid a nasty repeat episode..

Ferrea stainless steel 1.84 intakes and 1.70 exhausts. Comp Cams 942-16 springs without damper coils as they did't fit with non massaged guide bosses Angry. Comp Cams retainers and locks. So, that exhaust valve broke simply because of too soft spring set up and valve beeing too large diameter for our stock bore size and hitting the corner of the cylinder wall. Nothing secret here, just old stupidity. Also, Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers helped lifting the valve too far... And causing several bend push rods. Push rod cup end breakings were caused by too wide ball ends as discussed in different topic earlier. So, we are learning the hard way and piece by piece, but be sure our next engine will be even more aggressive and records will be broken. If not the WR, atleast our own. We will double our injector size as now used duty cycles show that we don't have enough fuel flow with E85 and 1.5 bar of boost. And something else too BigGrin. Visiting the dyno with time and money collected during the winter time...

One thing about learning the hard way, you will not make those mistakes again. Not only is it expensive, but you don't get to race when your car is broke. I think your group has come a long ways from the hot rod. Keep the Faith, baby!

Way to go guys, and to think that I was a witness to the original "Hollow Heads" engine firing up for the first time. Everyone keeps coaxing more horsepower and lower ETs out of our old powerplants. Would love to see you guys at Columbus! I just bet that someone would stick you in a car!

Jim, funny that you mentioned our Hollow Machine engine. We just sold that one to our friend in Tampere and it will power one customized '53 Ford that was originally four door sedan and it is now two door chopped custom. Time flies, but I doubt that we come to Columbus this year. We are afraid to be put to stick cars with carbs BigGrin. Would be funny though, to see all you there...

I am retiring on Friday, and will be heading to Columbus with Ted Eaton next Wednesday morning. See if you guys can put a trip together for next year. I'd enjoy seeing whoever would come but especially you and Jyrki!

Please Jim, take a lot of pics and do a full coverage to our Ford-Freak Magazine about Y-block Shootout. Are you going to drive with your car this year? You should...

Jim,

Be careful, we haven't seen you since the last time you "retired". Are you sure you can add another workload like the last one? I never worked so hard in my life until I retired! But I am catching up on the Honey do's. Chuck

Y's guys rule!
Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

New block is coming as other little updates also, so we really hope we can do better and go faster than this year.
