You could lap them together if what john is saying is correct, Beleive it or not I lapped a set sitting in the water on the beach with fine beach sand and an Ice cold beverage. you can't get a better environment for working on an engine than that. Just keep the rods, rockers and lifters as a matched set when installing.

Billy, lakes here are still freezing cold after winter and I really don't want my balls get shrunk .. Slapping them (the push rods) was one thought, but we are now searching the matching set. But... time is slowly running out... And, I really like your idea of cold beverage! Right now I'm enjoying some fine Finnish Beer as I got our towing car fixed today. Believe or not, but when we started our journey to alastaro track, my van broke the timing belt and all eight push rods bent to S-shape as a result of piston slap! Well, I changed the belt and gave a little hammer to push rods to straighten them . And I drove back home with my van today . Works fine, my Germany made Ford Transit 2.5 liter diesel van!

This is our latest run at Finnish Ford Nationals last Saturday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=694xs9V-pNc&feature=relmfu 10.020 and yet another two push rods bent and down to lifter valley . Today we got 8" A1 torque converter and it is now installed for the next weekend and 60 ft trials. Our best 60 feet is that 1.37 so far.

Great going guys. You’re knocking on the nine second door. Once you get that pushrod issue squared away, you get to concentrate on those other things that will drop those et’s.

Jep, though we changed the torque converter yesterday evening to A1 8 inch converter with approximimate stall being somewhere around 5000-5400 rpm. Seller didn't exactly know the specs, but it has been behind a big block chevy at the late 80's and been at the storage since early 90'. And at the next race we can continue to better our 60 ft times as it will be airfield track and only 1/8 mile race. Ted, we changed the balls of the Harland Sharps to older stock ones as the old ones are narrower at the ball and they fit better to our now Elgin push rods. The thread is the same and we used those new lock nuts. I sure hope that solves the problem. Have you ever had any problems with loose adjusting nuts? Heat transition of aluminum rockers and steel ball head screws?
