I listed some Y parts to sell/give away a few days ago. These are some of many parts I am going thru of my Dads stuff. Had a fellow by the name of Rono in Freeport Maine ask for the flywheel. I shiped it to him. He get the part and starts complaining about it . Including what it cost to ship it. That was all I wanted to recover. I am no mechanic and all he could do was complain about the flywheel. Now he doesnt want to pay for the shipping.

I guess due to the experience with this I will throw away the rest of the parts.

BE AWARE OF THIS WHEN YOU SELL PARTS TO RONO! MAYBE YOU SHOULD SELL/GIVE PARTS TO OTHER GUYS ON THIS SITE.

If the flywheel is in fact bad, then it is not the fault of Rono. As the seller, it is your responsibility to asses the condition to the best of your abilities and educate yourself the best you can about the product you are selling. If the buyer has a valid argument, then the honorable thing to do is to issue a refund and take it as a learning experience.

A way to avoid this is to clean the parts and email good, clear, well lit, reasonably sized pictures before making the sale. Pictures can still hide things but they remove a lot of doubt.

If pictures are not an option (some people still refuse to get involve with this electronic world), you can admit to the buyer that you really don't know how or have the means necessary to determine the condition and offer to refund the cost of the part if he covers return shipping. This doesn't always work for both parties, but in the case of rare or hard to find stuff, people will usually agree to some similar compromise. No one can know everything about everything.

My advice, as a professional in that sort of business, if Rono's complaint is legitimate, refund the shipping as he requests, learn from it and move on.

Please don't throw the stuff away. This is a learning experience for you, nothing more.

...And, frankly, if you are going to throw it away, I'm glad to drive up and take it off of your hands. You can give it to Charlie's Salvage. Tongue

The way I understand it per 55Birdman's ad the flywheel (among other parts) was free to whoever wants it, just pay the shipping. Doesn't state in the ad the condition. I would hope they would have discussed the condition and the postage before it was sent. A flywheel can't be cheap to send.

I can see 55Birdman's point. All he wants is to have the shipping refunded.

Well, 55Birdman didn't waste any time bashing me about our transaction with his flywheel. When he first contacted me, he told me it was "Dirty". When it arrived this morning, I immediately e-mailed him and told him how badly pitted it was also and that he needs to describe the parts he is selling a little better. I told him that I was going to take it right down to a machine shop this morning (which I did) to see if it was salvageable. The shop told me that it probably would clean up, but may have pinholes in the surface. Not great, but I can live with it. On my way back home I mailed the full amount to Mr. 55Birdman and sent him an e-mail when I got back to the house. Not fast enough before he started bashing me and my reputation though. As I explained to Mr. 55Birdman, I have bought and sold hundreds of items on Ebay and have 100% positive feedback. I always pay what I owe, but I hve been burned in the past and was just being cautious. Mr. 55Birdman told me that he is not a mechanic and that he is just trying to sell some of his Dad's old stuff, but like The Master Cylinder says, you have to know what you are selling and don't sell junk that can't that can't be used.

I agree with Paul, knowing your dad, he would not want that. My suggestion is have someone close to you come by and look at the parts that knows what the stuff is worth. I am pretty sure there is someone on this site that is close to you and would be happy to help you.

These parts were my Dads. He had the 55 TBird. I am no mechanic . I wouldnt know a pit from a post hole . The flywheel was dirty to me. I dont know what to look for to know if its good or not. I thought I would be doing you guys a favor by offering these many parts for shipping only. And right out of the block people start bitching about what they got.Goes to show everybodys looking for something for nothing. Well, I threw all that stuff away. Some of the parts I would assume were or could be expensive. They were junk to me and thats what they will always be.I sent a Bellhousing to a Mummert fellow. I guess he will be groaning and moaning when he gets it as being the wrong part even though I sent him a picture of it. It was very dirty too. Guess that will make it useless. Sorry Mr. Mummert. Dad didnt know he was going to die and leave these pieces to me to dispose of. He should have known that and got them ready to give away. But he didnt.  I will send you your money back if you want it.

I am really shocked at what my dad said about this site and how great the members on it were and for me to come up against this right out of the blocks. Really makes me wonder what he was thinking.

For what it's worth, I've sold a number of items to Ron. Always found him to be honest and forthcoming. I tend to think birdman probably did not realize the condition of the parts he sold. It should be a learning experience for him, I seriously doubt there was any intentional  deception on either side.

I have sold parts to Rono and he is one of the many fine upstanding y's guys.  As for your less than thoughtful disposal of late father's estate items, wow Sick .
