Rather than delete the post, I’m simply locking it. Both parties have learned lessons over this and hopefully all is resolved. The biggest learning here is if there are disputes, then get with each other first to settle them before airing any dirty laundry to the world. Ted, YBF Moderator.

HT32BSX115 (5/1/2012) Just some thoughts about buying and selling "stuff" to people you don't really know.
1. Take AT LEAST 4 pictures. They MUST be IN FOCUS, different views, and clear enough to identify the part and any problems it might have
2. Describe in detail every aspect of the part. (including any problems... leave nothing out)
3. Don't price it like it's 'gold-plated'!!
4. If you're selling it and the buyer is paying the shipping... get it boxed, weighed, and the shipping price before you try to sell it or even give it away! That way you can give the recipient the shipping price BEFORE he/she makes a decision.
5. Always have a return policy... even if it will cost you.
If I sell something and the person is not happy with it, (because I am not in any sort of "bottom-line" business), I would probably just send them a refund if they weren't happy and tell them to keep it!!!
6. COMMUNICATE....... promptly! either by phone or email (or both) with a followup. Don't EVER leave anyone 'hanging'!!Rick, doing what you've suggested has got to avoid problems! No one wants to go through what has been related in this thread! Regards,

Hi Y-guys......
Just a thought about buying and selling "stuff" to people you don't really know.
I have bought and sold a lot of stuff on Ebay, Craigslist etc. It's only stuff that I have laying around and I have never been in the business of selling ANYTHING. BUT I HATE TO THROW ANYTHING AWAY!
A few simple "rules" really help when you're selling anything.
1. TAKE at least 4 pictures. They MUST be IN FOCUS, different views and clear enough to identify the part and any problems it might have
2. Describe in detail every aspect of the part. ( including any problems.....leave nothing out)
3. Don't price it like it's "gold-plated"!!
4. If you're selling it and the buyer is paying the shipping, get it boxed, weighed and the shipping price before you try to sell it or even give it away so that you can give the recipient the shipping price BEFORE he/she makes a decision.
5. Always have a return policy. even if it will cost you.
I have never had anything come back. BUT if I sell something and the person is not happy with it, (because I am not in any sort of "bottom-line" business), I would probably just send them a refund if they weren't happy and tell them to keep it!!! So far it's never happened!
6. COMMUNICATE....... promptly! either by phone or email (or both) with a followup. Don't EVER leave anyone "hanging"!!
Cheers,
Rick

I'm quite sure "birdman" has had an eyefull. He is a younger fellow that ended up with his dad's collection of parts after he passed away. One of the key ingredients in this would be intent. I am sure there was no intent to defraud or scam anyone. One suggestion is that situation like this be resolved via EMAIL or private message. Then when things are settled you don't have to read all of our comments. Take life a bit slower its not worth the hurry. Chuck Actually now that this situation has been resolved perhaps the thread would be better served if deleted? Jim/Ted?
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Sometimes I have trouble understanding people. You get something basicly for free( cost of shipping) and then complain like you paid a lot of money for it. There is an old saying that some people would complain if you gave them a free funeral. Guess it still is true. When I die there is a lot of my stuff that my wife and kids will consder to be junk. My advice to everyone is to make sure your family knows what your "junk" is worth, and how to dispose of it to people will appreciate it. I, for one, would rather have my "junk" given to someone that would appreciate it rather than trash it. I would also hope that whoever they gave it to would not complain about the quality of free "junk". As I have gotten older I am in the habit of labeling my "junk" and puting a value on it so my family will have some idea of what is there and what it actualy is. None of us will get out of here alive so we may as well try to make things a little easier for those who have to clean up the mess that we leave. No matter how well we plan there will be somewhat of a mess.

@ Birdman55 I happen to be the one that was contacting your dad and your mother when your dad was going through his bout with cancer. I am a preacher and pastor, and had made plans to visit your father on my next trip to NC. All of my relatives live either in Walkertown or Mt Airy... I do visit on occasion. From what I know of your father (his name was Earl, right?), he was a great man, and one to be respected. When you began posting here, you shared the same sentiments with us on this website. Please don't let something like this misunderstanding allow you to blow your top to your father's buddies on this site. If you're my age or younger, you know about all of the other forums and blogs that are out there that contain "user bashing" almost on a daily basis. Frankly, I get tired of that. This is a site where it is RARE to see that happen, if at all. Throwing away the things that connected your father to his life and his memories just ain't good sense, pardon my English. Come on, let's honor your father here. And no, I have no stake in any of your parts nor am I after making money off of your dad's belongings. @ Ron Reminds me of what happened to me about 2 years ago when someone else began posting publicly a little too soon. The internet at times can be a place where the "gentleman's agreement" is forgotten and people post quickly per their emotions. The fella that posted quite a bit about me eventually deleted the thread after I contacted him privately to rectify any situation. Most of us know who you are on this site anyway and further know that your reputation has not been damaged. Maybe Birdman will lend an ear?

55Birdman (4/27/2012)
These parts were my Dads. He had the 55 TBird. I am no mechanic . I wouldnt know a pit from a post hole . The flywheel was dirty to me. I dont know what to look for to know if its good or not. I thought I would be doing you guys a favor by offering these many parts for shipping only. And right out of the block people start bitching about what they got.Goes to show everybodys looking for something for nothing. Well, I threw all that stuff away. Some of the parts I would assume were or could be expensive. They were junk to me and thats what they will always be.I sent a Bellhousing to a Mummert fellow. I guess he will be groaning and moaning when he gets it as being the wrong part even though I sent him a picture of it. It was very dirty too. Guess that will make it useless. Sorry Mr. Mummert. Dad didnt know he was going to die and leave these pieces to me to dispose of. He should have known that and got them ready to give away. But he didnt. I will send you your money back if you want it. I am really shocked at what my dad said about this site and how great the members on it were and for me to come up against this right out of the blocks. Really makes me wonder what he was thinking. I have sold parts to Rono and he is one of the many fine upstanding y's guys. As for your less than thoughtful disposal of late father's estate items, wow .
