It's great no matter where we call home that the "Y" brings us all together and we manage to understand each other. I bet that puting the timing gears on with the marks 12 pins apart on the drivers side could be a problem when you sit in the Right seat to drive

You guys are right, the Ford O Matic I have in storage does have an alum tail shaft, it's so covered in crud I had to use a magnet to verify it was not alum. It's also about 7 inches longer than the FMX standing next to it. Bill, In the US the rear most part of the trans that accepts the slip yoke and speedo gear is commonly called the tailshaft housing, do you call it something different? Kev, i was thinking that later, yes, if i remember rightly you call our "tail shaft", the "drive shaft" from what i see here. And you refer to the rear trans housing as the tailshaft? but was referred to as "tailshaft" and not tailshaft "housing" in 1st and 2nd replies, strange when the housing is not a shaft! but got the general idea.

kevink1955 (1/3/2012) Now Your gona make me look, I have a Ford O Matic in storage that (I think) has a cast iron tailshaft. It's sitting next to an FMX with an alum tail shaft that is much shorter than the Ford O tail. One day they are going to be combined into an FMX O Matic for my 56 Fairlane.Kev, you are mixing up tail shafts with g.box extension housings. the tail shaft connects the trans to the diff!!

why not? Good way to screw up the torque converter and pump for two reasons "why not?".
