Add the Wix 51085 oil filter to the group of shorter than stock engine oil filters. It’s 3.625” tall.

This is the 2nd time over the years that I've made a good effort at getting rid of the bypass/remote, both unsuccessfully. Thanks guys for trying to help out. The right angle adapter will be going back to Speedway this week. Should someone need one, watch Speedway's Garage Sale. It will end up there.

If I remember correctly Purolator used to sell a filter that was about half the length of the PER-1 ( FL-1). It was a Purolator PER-81. It was a Chrysler unit that had the same threads and drain back valve as the Ford unit. It worked for me! Good Luck! Jim

Mike, Please bear with me as I am trying to learn more about the Y-block. Since the weak link seems to be the stamped adapter plate, is there enough meat in the cylinder block where the oil gallery exits to the filter to be tapped for pipe thread ? If you can tap the gallery port, then you can toss the plate and plumb the remote filter with AN fittings/hose or whatever you choose. I am further assuming that the stock adapter nipple can be threaded as well. I could sure be wrong but this would seem to be the ultimate solution. I expect the experts on this site will point out the reasons that this can't be done. I'm just daydreaming out loud.

Yes, that is similar to what I have been using, but trying to replace. Put the bypass and remote back on and tightened everything as tight as possible.

The Speedway right angle adapter came in today. It is a genuine Ford part. However it didnt allow the fitting of even the half size filter. Couldnt go back because of the bell housing flange. The angle of the block wouldnt allow a vertical install. Forward interferred with steering box, down finds the oil pump pickup tube.

I tried the filter Nick mentioned today. It looked like an FL300. Didnt fit. Even tried gently beating it to size but no go . Put on the mini filter Paul mentioned. It is scarry, meant to fit a Lotus! The Speedway adapter with an FL300 angled about 45 degrees up and back may work. As I am sitting here looking out of the window, it is pouring rain! Very unusual for this time of year here!
