Very cool Hi-Boy. It's hard to believe you'll be covering up that gorgeous Y though.

Wayne, there may be many depending on peoples ideas, most of the lightened ones i,ve seen have just had the front machined off, most ive seen are from boats.Smile

I am running NGK BCPR6EIX-11 (this number I converted from the Champion number John listed with the heads info) along with MSD distributor, MSD box, Mummert heads and intake with fuel injection.

NGK's.... the higher the number the colder the plug.

Here are the Autolite numbers I use for 14mm, ¾” reach sparkplug applications.  This includes the aluminum Mummert heads.

For compression ratios from 9.0:1-11.0:1, Autolite 3924.

For compression ratios from 11.0:1-13.5:1, Autolite 3923.

For compression ratios from 13.5:1-15:1, Autolite 3922.

On the Autolites, the higher the number, the hotter the plug.  As a general rule, U.S. made spark plugs get hotter as the number increases while offshore or foreign sparkplugs have cooler operating ranges as the number increases.

First run on the Dyno today 241 hp and 272 f/lbs @5000 rpm, engine guy said it sounded sweet! But plugs in 1&5 and 3&7 are dirty (sooty) while plugs 2&6 and 4&8 are fine! I'm using a stock Ford 2X4 intake with 500 edelbrocks, any clues? He thinks it maybe bad mixing cause there' no plenum chambers under the carbs. Hes sure the hp will increase after this is solved.

cheers oggie.

On the Ford dual quad intake, 1, 3, 5, & 7 are the cylinders being supplied by the primary side of the forward facing carbs so I’m thinking this is a carb problem rather than an intake problem.  And because it’s primary side related, then the metering rods not being pulled down into the primary jets comes to mind.  The rods could be either stuck in the up position or there is inadequate vacuum to overcome the existing power valve springs to pull the rods down into the jets.  Checking the manifold vacuum with a gauge may help in the troubleshooting.  If the manifold vacuum is low, then using lighter tension power valve springs may be the ticket.  Beyond this, it may be as simple as the primary jetting needing adjusting.

A bit more information on the carbs might help.  Are they new or used?  If used, have the jets and/or metering rods been changed out previously?
