Congratulations to Ted and Keith. Just building a reliable engine for Bonneville is more difficult than it sounds. I know guys that blow up year after year. A buck 75 ain't too bad either! Keith, you built a whole new engine and all you needed was some duct tape aerodynamics. A great showing for the Y-Block.

This is shaping up to be quite the Y-block turn out. It makes me wish I was dragging out my race car. I'm doing the next best thing atleast were driving out in a Y-block. What changes did you make this year and what is your speed prediction are you moving to the long coarse? Thanks Sam

Good work Keith! With pics, just remember to use enter after each picture so they will end up stacked, not side by side at the computer screen .

To answer some questions, changes to the car to improve aerodynamics are, track nose, got rid of the louvers in the hood & roof, added moon disc's all the way around & on the inside of the front, narrowed the rear a total of 6" to get the rear tires out of the wind. Also bringing the windshield & side lexan flush to the outer panels,& if time permits a full belly pan. Now I will see if I remember how I added photos yesterday!!!!! Oh yea plans were to paint the car & make it real slippery, well I got the doors done............
its not how fast you go, its how you go fast.

Keith Great looking car and we already know it will go fast. I was reminded of something about recip water cooled aircraft by the pic of the radiator in the back of the car. A few minutes on google came up with the "Meredith effect". Basically planes like Spitfires and Mustangs used the heat from the radiator to speed up the flow through the radiator and actually generate thrust. It was theorized that this could be further augmented by running the exhaust into the duct behind the rad. There have been a lot of sharp operators on the salt and so maybe this has been tried. And I don't have any idea of how it could be incorporated in your car. Here is a homebuild aircraft thread on the subject http://www.aviationkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/homebuilt/1937/The-Meredith-Effect Anyhow maybe something to think about for a Y powered streamliner.

Interesting stuff Doug! Although I've heard of this "effect" before I still liked this guys responce. "Hey Corky,
Forget about the engine, just add a large pipe to your mouth and jet that out the back of the aircraft. There's so much hot air coming out, you should break the sound barrier. The amount of thrust created by this affect will be negligible at best. Get out your thermodynamics book and see for yourself.
Stan Kapushinski" There's one on every forum.
