Apache, I,m 3 times your age plus 1.5. So that makes me about the same age as Glen Henderson. It doesn't mean I have any more knowledge, just more skinned knuckles.

Just turned 64 on Thursday. First started in on Y-Blocks about 10 years ago with a '56 F-100 Big window. Before that, I was building old Harley choppers, a totally restored 41 Harley Knucklehead  and a couple of GTO's (65 and 67), but NEVER and scrubsBigGrin

I was 4 years and 2 months when the 55 'Bird was born in May. The Thunderbird is my first Y, the rest of my Fords were small blocks or sixes. First car i bought was a 64 Falcon that the PO had put a Hipo 289 in, then got drafted. Had a lot of fun with that car.

I am 70, my first y block was a 55 mainline in 1959. Swapped it on a 55 Montclair. Had a 55 f600 for several years,then went without a y block for forty years when I got my 55 f100 in 2005.

Still grieve over that Montclair though.

I'm 49 and got my first Y a couple of months back. I've put over 4,000 miles on it so far. A lot of fun! I really want to do my first-ever engine tear-down and rebuild on a Y-block; I'm still figuring out how to get a good engine to work with, and how to fit this project in the garage. My first car was a 74 Mercury Bobcat. Still in high school, I got a 70 Torino Cobra with 429 SCJ, 4 speed toploader and 4.30 gears. That car was wicked fast. It sat in my parents' garage for nearly 30 years, and recently went to my cousin. Lots of cars later, I now have 57 Country Sedan, 70 Bronco, 74 MGB and 05 JCW Mini.
