I enjoyed every minute of being there for the Shootout and I am already making plans for next year! I do hope Tony Fritz will hold Fast Fords another year. I know that he was not happy with the overall number of racers on Saturday and Sunday especially since the weather was good. But if you folks think it a good track and venue I will certainly encourage him to keep Fast Fords at Dragway 42. Compared to many of you I know very little about drag racing so I do value your opinions on these things.
It was a treat to not only hook up with Ted in the timed runs on Saturday morning but especially to make it to the final round with him in eliminations. I am working on another video of my run against Ted but if you want to see a little bit of my bye run I have a video here:
https://youtu.be/KPKZpioU2kkMy best run of the day was a 16.0044 and I feel like I could have been in the 15's if I wasn't so itchy at the line and burning rubber at the lights. The E4 certainly made the engine pick up quite a bit and I wound up above 5,000 rpm easily for each shift. I did notice that Jim Cochran had a set of drag radials on his car and and what looked to be stock wheels - I would think this is the route I would need to go if I want to maintain a street car that races at the track occasionally. But, knowing me, I will be working on going a little faster in this thing so more modifications or even a swap to the 312 I am building is on the way.
I just can't leave well enough alone! It was good to meet David Church. I believe he had some transmission trouble, but I loved that yellow Thunderbird!
