I went racing at Beaver Springs today. I made my 1st pass, and they came to my pit and said I was putting down oil the whole way up the track. I checked my oil and I was down a quart. I drove about 2 hours, 95 miles one way to get there. On the way home I used less than 1/2 a quart. I won’t have time to fix it before the shootout and perhaps not this summer. I don’t mind adding oil while I’m driving. Is there someway of putting some kind of diaper on it while at the track? What kind of material would you use? Thanks for any help or ideas. By the way it would be the rear main seal. Dennis

Yes Sir! Google "engine diaper" and you'll find 'em at any of your favorite high performance dealers. They are required by the NHRA for certain classes. I'm not sure how I feel about running with a known leak, but it's not my decision to make.

Chuck, it’s the rear main seal. I can’t believe it’s as bad as they say. Less that a half a quart in 95 miles on the way home. I would guess some drops every now and then up the track. If I could only catch them.

Meteor, a few months ago, I asked for information in regards to oil-pan-rail reinforcements for Y-blocks. At least one person said that the "bumps" along the rails will not accommodate reinforcements. At least one other person said they aren't necessary. I'm not so sure I agree with them.

I, and possibly others, would like to see a photo of what you have. If it works, you might find some potential customers on the forum.

Thank you.

They didn’t stop to clean the track after me, I can’t believe it was as bad as they say. There was an accident earlier in the day, some guy in a 4 cylinder probe who was doing 142 mph at the 1/8 mile, went into the grass and brushed the guardrail. Don’t know what he would have been doing at the finish, as he crossed the line in the grass. Dennis

Dennis, I wonder if you got blamed for someone else's oil down.  Also, it they didn't clean up the track afterwards there couldn't be much oil on the track.  If you were to install meteor's kit, you would have the pan off, you're only minutes away from replacing the rear seal.  If you don't see a small puddle when you park the truck, I wouldn't worry about it and go ahead and run it at the shootout.

I suspect they saw a spot of oil on the track after you took off. Maybe yours, maybe not. If its the rear seal you could use a tie down strap up and over the transmission to hold an old folded towel in the area between the pan and transmission. See you in June!
