https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1956-56-FORD-FAIRLANE-WIRING-NEUTRAL-SAFETY-SWITCH-NEW/191809894475

Does it currently start in any Gearshift Position? There is a Red Wire from "Start" Terminal on Ignition Switch. Comes out the Firewall where the  Rubber is surrounded by a Metal Ring. Its probably plugged together with another Red Wire that goes over to "S" Position on the Solenoid on Fenderwell. Thats how it is wired for Standard Transmission where no Switch is used. You need the Wring shown above to run the Red Wire to the Neutral Switch. It Plugs into each end of the Red Wire now plugged together. Terminals go on 2 of the Terminals on Neutral Switch.

On a Standard they don't have Neutral Switch. That Small Harness on Ebay is not used. Where that Harness plugs in is joined together so Current goes through to Solenoid. The Spade Terminal Ends of small Harness plug onto Switch. Bullet ends plug into Harness which is now likely plugged together which is why it starts in any Gear like a Standard Transmission would. The Part # for the 1955 Switch wiring Harness is different that 1956. Switch end is the same. The Bullet end may be different for 55. You may have to change a Terminal where it plugs into main Harness near Firewall if You buy the Harness on Ebay. The Screws to hold the Switch to Bracket on Steering Column are #8-32   1/4" Long..

The device shown above is for neutral start and back up lights on my 56 with an automatic. All 4 are the spade type. 2 are red for the start and 2 black in another loom for the back up lights.
The previous owner of mine add another switch, attached to one of the 1/4” nuts to allow it to start in park by it closing when it hit the swing arm you see on the shown device when up in the “park” position. Ford automatics only started in neutral. Today it also serves as a theft device since people don’t have a clue. I removed the added switch.

Interesting. I have never seen a Switch with all Spade Terminals The '58 Switch is interchangeable and Starts in Park and Neutral and it also has 2 Spade and 2 Bullet Terminals..
