Don't know about a '59 bolting up, but as I understand it, by '59 the Fordomatic was religated to cheaper models & is a true 2 spd trans, unlike the earlier models that are actually 3 spd.

P.S.-  Whatever non original trans you decide on, ensure that the input shaft does "not" bottom out against the crankshaft!  That info comes from an         expert on Y-Block conversions, John Mummert..

The Toyota steering conversion can be made to work with the 3 on the tree steering column.  It will require some re-engineering of the column, a weld in Borgenson joint, and a bunch of measuring to get it right the first time.  Becuase you have to modify and weld the stock column, it makes their conversion kit not a bolt in.  Which is why Midfifty says it won't work.

Be careful some of the later ones had an aluminum case and bell housing. Those are actually 2 speed only. The one you want will have a cast case around the main transmission section.

Y's guys rule!
Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

The bellhousing to engine bolt pattern is the same for all Ford Y-Blocks.  So all Ford Y-block transmissions and bellhousings will bolt up to any other Ford Y-Block.  The mounting pattern to the transmission, however, is not universal so you do need the matching bellhousing for the transmission.
