I have had my powder coating on the engine bay parts for about 8-9 years now with no fading that I can see. I didn't know that some were more UV resistant than others. I would guess that the home powder coating kits you can buy do not give you the same quality result as that of an industrial application and that the industrial powder coat applications would most likely be more resistant to damage than any paint you could buy.

I'd be surprised if you can find a coating that isn't bothered by gasoline.  The best course of action there is to clean off any gasoline asap.

Some powder coat is more UV resistant than others but none are totally resistant.  Ask your powder coater about the options and properties of the product he uses.

On my 56 Customline, the inner fenders, upper radiator shroud/valance and lower front stone guard were all powder coated gloss black. The coating is very tuff and won't chip or scratch very easily so rust can't take hold. Not affected by UV or water and cleans easily.

I've always used just a rattle can semi-gloss. Different brands but they all seem to cloud over after time, my three cars are all daily drivers so it maybe from the constant under hood heat. As an experiment the last ones I painted on my 57 I used an epoxy made for BBQs, After three years it still looks good and hasn't clouded. And paints they make today aren't like the old enamels of days gone by..

Yes I meant uv exposure my mistake about the ozone. I want to make sure I use the right color and it won't be bothered by gasoline

I misunderstood your question. The firewall is body color and the rest is semi gloss black. I used Rustoleum semi gloss black on my inner fenders, core support and latch panel.

I use either Krylon Satin Black or Rustoleum semi gloss.  I did my 64 with the Krylon and it came out super - a real nice finish.  As for proper color, I know the TBirds were painted  body color for all the underhood sheet metal while the add on parts (power brake, heater parts) were satin/semigloss  black.

I don't know about the sedans, but they were painted in the same shop as the TBirds.

Ozone is a molecule in the air.  Having a hood open or closed will have no affect on exposure.

UV light, on the other hand, does affect materials that are not designed for it and the underside of a closed hood would be out of direct exposure.  That's one possibility.

I was told the stuff does not hold up well to ozone exposure I guess the limited time the hood is up is ok with the paint

I used it on my 56 Glass Top , I bought at the Ford Nationals from Eastwood, I believe it was a semigloss.
