Hello, can someone help me with the proper color of the sheet metal under the hood of my 1956 Club Sedan, I have decided to detail the engine compartment and I want to repaint all the black sheet metal stuff ,the air horns the mud guards the radiator support you know all the black stuff. I was going to use satin Chassis Saver brand paint but I was told it would cloud up after some time . Just wanted to know if anyone knows what paint and color it was originally .

All the ones I've seen are body color. I'm sure someone with more knowledge can let you know for sure.

I used it on my 56 Glass Top , I bought at the Ford Nationals from Eastwood, I believe it was a semigloss.

I was told the stuff does not hold up well to ozone exposure I guess the limited time the hood is up is ok with the paint

Ozone is a molecule in the air. Having a hood open or closed will have no affect on exposure. UV light, on the other hand, does affect materials that are not designed for it and the underside of a closed hood would be out of direct exposure. That's one possibility.

I use either Krylon Satin Black or Rustoleum semi gloss. I did my 64 with the Krylon and it came out super - a real nice finish. As for proper color, I know the TBirds were painted body color for all the underhood sheet metal while the add on parts (power brake, heater parts) were satin/semigloss black.
I don't know about the sedans, but they were painted in the same shop as the TBirds.

I misunderstood your question. The firewall is body color and the rest is semi gloss black. I used Rustoleum semi gloss black on my inner fenders, core support and latch panel.

Yes I meant uv exposure my mistake about the ozone. I want to make sure I use the right color and it won't be bothered by gasoline
