Best time with my '57 Bird was 14.98, 98 MPH at the old Alton Dragstrip in Alton Ill back around 1968-69. 312, .0425 over, balanced, Crane street grind cam, factory E carbs, 3 speed all syncro transmission, 3.89 open rear end, 6" recap cheater slicks, home made traction masters. '50's Headman Headers. Hope to do better with current rebuild if I can ever get it all together.

The car weighs 2750lb going down the track. So far the best ET for a 1/4 mile track come from Bakersfield, elevation is 650ft. Unfortunately we go there in March for the March Meet. DA hovers around 2000ft. The last time we were there we had the 343cu in motor form John Hildebrands 31' coupe in the car but had 4.88's in it, there was definitley more there but when your 300 miles from home you run what you brung. The new 355 cu in motor is a runner, and coupled with 4.56 gears the car has picked up. Hopefully we can get to a 1/4 mile track when the weather is better before March.

List up dated. Our 8.134 / 170 mph is now current #2 time driven last saturday. We also drove 8.185 and 8.345 times last weekend, so it's not pure luck. And we hope we can still improve that best one, because none of those runs were exactly what we hoped. More to come... Though next race will be only 1/8 mile race ...
