Shane just noticed your post . I also are looking for some info on my 1951 custom ute (twin spinner) . Also the plate that was on the car when you bought it , that is the serial No (1B458 ) is close to my No 1B789 . Yet mine is a 1951 ute and has had a full reso some 12 years ago .I have owned the car for 12 months . Got me thinking maybe mine has a late model chassis or yours sits on an early model chassis . That is 6 years difference ,are the chassis the same ?

Hi Woody, have the same VIN plate, have the same problem, how did you go with info from anyonelse. If so, any info would be good, just do not want too much of a hickup when rego time comes up. I am building a 57 mainline from scratch, body off, back to metal, new everything from Mac's Parts $$  have put info in the forum for the first time, so not sure if went in, so everyone can read, hopefully, cos do need infomation. Can you read and check out, Thanks Shane

Hi Bill, or any one out there, have the same problem as Woody, could you help me with these numbers, have been looking every where, seem to be getting USA info but no Australian info..
I have a 57 mainline ute, have found a number on top of  R/H front of chassis member    VOB100    and on the underneath of round cross member under motor it has   4757 stamped on it. Have taken body off ,blasted and painted chassis, done all the rust etc replaced as much as possible with new parts, motor, auto, diff and front end rebuilt, would like to make it a bit easier to put it over the pits, I heard it's a bit tougher up here at the rego dept in Darwin... This is the data plate that was on it when i bought it                                                                                   ------------------------------------------------------------
   SERIAL           BODY          MODEL
   1B458              1787              121A

   PAINT             TRIM                   ?
  81222                62            BJH67-131B

Woody, I have your answer.

Serial Prefix 1G.2.59 = made in Geelong. February. 1959
Body 426G = 426th Customline/Mainline body out of Geelong that year (Open to conjecture)
Model 123A  = Utility, Geelong
Paint 2.2.2.2 = primer brand . Champagne. Champagne. Champagne
Trim 58 = Red

You should also have a Serial Number = number of vehicles out of Geelong that year( including Zephyrs etc)

All this info has come from a member of a Facebook page I started called Australian Customlines and Mainlines.

Thank you OzMainline. Great research you have been doing on this subject. Much appreciated.

Hi anyone know if Australian customlines and mainlines were matching numbers with there vin numbers and engine numbers similar to aus falcons

          regards  Yblocks rock

Yes, the chassis number was stamped same as engine number.. eg, 56 would be ATQ ****.

I bought one of the Ford plates off Aussie Bill which look original and took it to the local shopping centre engraver and had my numbers engraved on to it.

I know the originals were reverse punched but this looks real smick and a lot better than no plate at all.

I put my new numbers onto it anyway as the 272, chassis and body were all a mismatch anyway so now the plate reads what the car is now.

There is an Australian book, but it has no Vehicle identification information other than pictures of vehicles. Very hard to come by now, especially in good condition. I was lucky enough to get one off ebay this week for a very cheap price.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/17b110a2-45e3-4c18-988d-349c.jpg

Does anyone know where Parts Catalogs,Shop Manuals etc can be purchased for the Australian Utes 49-59?There must have been unique Parts Books for these Cars as they would not have been covered in the Canadian Parts Catalogs?
