Could I please get some help decoding my VIN or Vehicle Identification Plate which is on a 59 Australian Ford Mainline Ute. I have spent a lot of time searching for information without success.

Serial Prefix 1G.2.59

Body 426G

Model 123A

Paint 2.2.2.2

Trim 58

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Cheers, Woody.

Do you know of a site Rod? I have been Googling Aussie sites and I have found plenty of information on Aussie ford vin numbers, post XM/ XP Falcon era, but I've had no luck finding Australian Customline/ Mainline ID plates info. I figured someone here would know for sure.

Cheers, Woody.

I'm sure Bill will be along soon and he will know them off by heart.
My Customline doesn't have a plate at all which is a little bit disappointing

Woody, have you tried Ford Australia? I had a 59 Mainline a while back and the only info I had was the year. Very little info on the Internet that I can find. Mind you, I didn't have a computer when I had my '59

I have seen Australian Tag plates in as new condition at car shows so I there might be someone out there reproducing them. The XP Falcon plates look exactly the same. I will keep an eye out for you. I could do with a nice new one myself.

A letter to Ford would most probably get a positive response. Could be the go.

Cheers

Very unlikely, ford australia has little or no data info like USA has, particularly early 50.s. i have new data plates, bearing in mind they were reverse punched with the numbers etc.
