I'm interested but not enough to make any kind of commitment. If I got one it will probably be between 5 and 10 years from now. I'm sure he doesn't want to produce them now so he can store them for a purchase that might occur in the future. I sure wouldn't want to do that with such a large, heavy, expensive item.

I am not planning on a big motor so I cant use a block but will wait and see if a crank is in the future,a brand new 312 crank with 292 main bearing specs would do much better for me.

Verne Schumann needs additional verbal commitments on the new production Ford Y cylinder blocks. At this point he needs enough potential buyers to make this project viable as the current list of potential buyers is too short to make this happen. If you think you might be interested in a brand new 4.125” bore capable block, then give him a call and get your name on the list. No upfront money is required.

His contact information is:

Schumann’s Sales and Service

227 W Mayne St., Box 128

Blue Grass, Iowa 52776

Phone: 563 – 381 – 2416

Here are links to previous discussions regarding the blocks.

.

Let me add “Let’s not get hung up on crankshafts" . .

Those will come if the blocks happen. In the meantime, the proposed block can still use factory cranks as 292 main bearing sizing is being used in the new block design.

Whether or not Schumann succeeds in casting new bigger blocks, cranks will still be needed. I don't recall his proposal specifying where the cranks would come from. I seem to recall that John Mummert commented on this situation, but he may have indicated that there was a problem with the ground work needed, being than pirated by someone & sent off shore.. However, I'm not sure on my (bad) memory there.

Because some other crank would present other issues which include but are not limited to the flywheel/starter, timing cover, damper, pulley alignment, timing gear. Suddenly an affordable aftermarket crank becomes rather expensive.
You can have more stroke in your crank if youre using aftermarket Weslake heads, cause lack of cam.Whistling

And no expensive new block.

Actually I was wondering about a later model after market crank that would accept the externals. Seems someone talked about 302 cranks working with some mods. Not sure and you know how my memory works. By the way Charlie did you see this:

Why couldn't a block be built that would accept a more available crankshaft and still be a Y-Block? Two birds with one stone? Chuck

Hi guys

Don't disagree that cranks are needed but I don't hear anything about "affordable" cranks being produced.  I hear that we need them but then there is only silence and crickets.

What we do have is an opportunity to latch on to a big ci Y block.  I know this isn't for everyone but as I reread the post Charlie referenced, there were at least two or three folks that indicated they would jump on a new block ASAP.

We may need/want new cranks first but we don't have a choice in the order aftermarket parts for the Y arrive.  If/when we ever get cranks I'm going to guess a conservative minimum cost of over a  $1000 per unit. I base that on what aftermarket flathead cranks run and they've been around awhile and it might be argued have a broader customer appeal than a Y crank.

I would also hazard to say that the minimum number needed to make it financially  feasible to produce new cranks would have to be pretty large.  The preceeding paragraphs have been nothing but my personal opinion.

I do not have the access to blocks that some apparently do I seem to be luckier at finding hen's teeth, so the chance to get a new block is appealing to me.  Pricey?? Yeah but I recently sold a tractor so I'm momentarily flush.  I do know for certain that it is now or never for this new block.  If it doesn't happen now it will go away and be gone.

Just ramblin'

Mike

I'd rather be lucky than good.................

Paying big bucks for a block you may as well go the extra mile and get a billet moldex crank as Ted uses, still cheap money compared to what I hear some people have in their scrub motors.
