Carl sent me pictures of his ECG-D manifold.  Although it only had one visible plug in the bottom, the manifold looks like it may have been repaired in the past and that repair did away with one of the plugs.  The date code is also not apparent on the top for what could be a variety of reasons.  For the time being, Carl’s manifold will simply be listed as having no date.

Now thanks to fakirone who just posted an "E" manifold for sale currently on eBay

http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/Topic66822-7-1.aspx

There is a  5 28 57 marked intake for our records.

Thats the first May built intake manifold that we have heard of.

I have a 1-9 manifold, also.

As Dennis K. said previously, it is AMAZING how many 2x4 Ford intake manifolds seem to be on eBay, at swap meets, etc., BUT orphaned from their original carburetors, linkage assemblies, fuel filters, valley pans, and air cleaners. My manifold came with a car and a bunch of miscellaneous y-block parts, but nothing else for the 2x4 assembly.

I suspect that many clone (reproduction) parts are easily passed off as 'original' to those of us that haven't studied known original assemblies.

Does anyone know of a source for reproduction original style oval ('56 PowerPak) air cleaners?

It was not uncommon during late Sixties/early Seventies wrecking yard forays to come across two barrel Y’s that had the dual quad recessed valley pans on them.  At the time, the significance of those valley pans wasn’t recognized as now it’s apparent that these were likely dual quad engines where the 2X4 setups were removed and simply replaced with intake and carb setups that were easier to maintain.

Here’s the updated list for the 30 ECG-D 2X4 intake manifolds that have dates.  No November intakes posted yet.

12-5 (JH), 12-6 (Marc), 12-13 (JH), 12-14 (Ted), 12-14 (EP), 12-17 (TD), 12-28 (JH)

2-4 (JH), 2-28 (JH), 2-28 (EP)

3-6 (JH), 3-7 (JH), 3-8 (JH), 3-13 (JH), 3-13 (EP), 3-29 (Ted), 3-29 (EP)

Those two barrel carb equipted "Y" engines were 292s.

They are kind of common but still a curiosity in T Bird world.

The 1957 T Birds that were the cheapo model were equipted with the 292 and sporting the recessed valley pan.

I beleive Ford had some extra "E" valley pans which they decided to use up on the 292 T Bird engines.Perhaps some other body styles also but I have only seen them on 292 T Birds from the factory.

I checked my 2x4 manifold, it has 12-5 date code.  It used to be on my father's Custom he was running it hooked up to the McCullogh blower.  RH
