Can any of you fellows give me a source for a ring gear and pinion set for a 1956 Fairlane Vicky? Stock differential which manual calls a Banjo Housing Hypoid. I'm looking for a 3.22:1 gear. Thanks

I finally put in a 9" from a 1957 car. Simple bolt in with only change being to the length of the drive shaft. There may be someone out there supplying these stock gears but we couldn't find them in a timely manner.

Zack--thanks for the info...do all 57 Ford and/or Merc models use 9" rearend as you describe...also did you use center section housing and bolt 56 axle housing to it or use entire rear axle assembly or.. thanks..Kurt

As to what vehicles use what 9" rear end, I am no expert. The fellows here that answered my original question are the experts. I do know that they come in varying widths. All I can tell you for certain is that the rear end I used came out of a 1957 Ford passenger car. We used the whole assembly with my backing plates and drums. We used new brake lines and hoses but the wheel cylinders were near new so not replaced. I am lucky enough to have a friend who's really good at setting up rear ends. For my part, I got to do a lot of cleaning and painting of the new assembly.
