Glen

We painted a buddys shop truck with water tower paint. I think it was Jones-Blair. It was white and  Durable in the Texas sun. Looked great and like you said "CHEAP".  I think about 40 dollars a gallon.

It is Ford tractor paint from Tractor Supply @ $11.99 per qt. Not counting thinner and hardner, I have $36.00 in the paint job!

Isn't tractor paint oil based?  does it take a long time to dry?

Tim it is an enamel solvent based paint. It dries to the touch in 4 to 8 hours but like all solvent based paints, it takes days or weeks for all the solvents to evaporate. The pros and cons of using this paint have been debated for years over on the HAMB and while I agree that it has drawbacks, it was the right choice for me and this car. The most important reason being cost, and I admit that at some point I may break down and have it painted by a pro. But for right now I can use that $1500/$2000 for other things like an engine. I doubt that you can even buy it in CA with your laws.

Another big plus for the tractor paint...........I used them for years on dirt track cars and even when the body got bent up(as sometimes happens in dirt track racing)that tractor paint would stay on better than other paints.

I received my new Moser axles today to go along with the spool that Santa brought.

Sorry about the fuzzy pictures.

A little update for those following along,

Quarter panel spot painted after opening it up for tire clearance

33 spline axles, spool and 4.56 gears installed along with a little more housing bracing

Fuel system plumbed in the rear, more later!

Yes Gary, I finished the headers. They are not professional quality, but I think they will pass gas. You are correct, nothing like new parts to light a fire under you.
