"As far as the other insulators are concerned, I don't see where the conical shape vs the rectangular shape would make any difference in the lining up issue."

I meant using a quality set of OEM or aftermarket insulators instead of the home made ones.

It was probably 3 years since I removed the engine but I don't recollect any catching of the studs on the frame mounts that I can remember.
I know these parts were on the car so they must go back on. I'm going to be loosening the mounting bolts on the block and attempt to get the parts to line up and then tighten the bolts again. I'm a little concerned about tightening them if there's some weird angles in play that may mess up the threads.
As far as the other insulators are concerned, I don't see where the conical shape vs the rectangular shape would make any difference in the lining up issue.

I don't see any alternative than what was suggested loosening the brackets enough until they will hit the frame mount holes. Maybe once the insulators set on the frame mount correctly, tighten the bracket bolts before putting the full engine weight on them (or not tighten fully until trans is installed and tightened down)..

Are you considering the store bought insulators?

The mount you removed from the brackets are correct for 1954. I came across a 1955 LINC CHASSIS PARTS MANUAL.

The stamped steel frame mounts, how are they attached to the tubular cross-member?

You have the correct year WORKSHOP MANUAL?

And when you pulled the engine, the mount studs did not catch and cause the chassis to rise any?

The bottom of 6038 has the protrusion i speak of. In this picture. It fits in a hile of similar size in the frame mount area.
Do how do I move them an inch or so so they fit in the hole in the frame? I'll try to loosen them up and try to fit the protrusion into the hole and tighten to the block. I might try to put something behind the top of the mount, above the bolts to try to bring the mount bolts inward so the holes line up.
I was not expecting there to be an issue lining up these mounts.

Actually I'm putting a bolt in a hole. The bottom of the upper mount has a 1" ish round protruding area that fits into a similarly size hole in the frame mount.
I thought about loosening the bolts holding the mount to the block but wasn't sure about tightening it back up again, if i was able to get the protrusions into the hole. I didn't want to damage the threads in the block.

Losen up the bolts on the block to get a bit more play. You are putting a V into a V. The bolts will spread slightly as they go in the holes. On my Y-Block its sometimes easier to get one side in and the push/wiggle the engine sideways to get the other one in the hole.

Y's guys rule!
Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Look at what I tripped across -

https://www.ebay.com/itm/190679269841

https://www.ebay.com/itm/112608263802

Aftermarket insulators and see what they say -

New engine mounts are now available all the '52-59 Lincoln's. (Note: Replaces the round mount on '52-53 models). Includes a complete set of 2-rectangle and 2-round donuts, enough for one vehicle.

It may be that the 1954 had the rectangular insulators. I guess they fit 1952-1957 LYB and 1958-1959 MEL (430).

Still doesn't explain why the engine bracket studs won't align into the frame mounts. They came out without a fight?

Switched the mounts. No difference. I don't believe the insulator shape will make a difference either. 6028 bolts soludly to the block and the bolts going down thru the holes are welded on straight. The rubber parts won't change where they end up. Still have to get them a inch narrower. Strange. Can't make the block narrower nor can i move the mount holes.
And i couldnt get any pics, engine too low and a super pita lifting it again. Dorry
