Thanks, it appears very simple, but I have a 3 wire GM alternator which has no external regulator. The schematic above, I hope, solves the problem. The problem I have now is a schematic for the oil pressure light quote] 82warren (8/31/2018)
An original generator idiot light socket has two wires, not one. One wire goes to the IGN switch, the other wire to the ARMATURE connection on your voltage regulator, It's very simple, when you turn the switch on the light finds a ground inside the regulator, the light comes on. When engine starts and generator charges the ground goes away and the light goes out, showing that the generator is indeed charging. warren [/quote]

Putting in a sender is not a problem as I can use one of the other plugs in the side oiler. What I need is a electrical schematic since nothing is stock in the electrical system and currently there are no wires for the light.

You can make a T-Fitting which allows both senders to go in the Original outlet on the Block.. Or You could use something like Item # 202147916360 on Ebay.

My 57 TBird has a pressure sensor that provides a ground for the light, I like having both just in case one goes haywire. I would imagine all mid to late 50's fords were the same. I used a tee and plumbed in the sending unit for the gage and light together.

This one should work for most Delco 3 wires. Don’t worry about the main feed going to the starter solenoid, it can go to the battery. The third wire to the main buss is the “voltage sensor wire”, or whatever it’s really called. It ensures full charging voltage goes to the battery. Sometimes needed, sometimes not, but helpful iff the battery is a ways off in the trunk. It also energizes the alternator. I’ve had some that wouldn’t charge till they saw 2500 or so rpm without it. Once charging they were fine, they self energized. For the oil pressure, just use a tee where you’ve got the gauge hooked up, or (if they’ll come out) pick one of the gallery plugs up the drivers side of the block. Y blocks are side oilers, but we never call them that.

The posting about the one wire alternator and an idiot light brings to mind something that I had in the back of my mind (lots of room there) for my 54.
I put in an aftermarket wire harness (it had already been converted to 12V) and I didn't hook up the idiot lights for the generator and oil pressure (used gauges instead) and now I would like to use the lights. It has a 3 wire GM alternator. Can some one provide a wiring schematic to do this? For both the oil pressure and alternator? Thanks
