Intake is Lexan ( I'm making it), with a Hilborn four port short injector

Well my engine is not happy 

Cliff.  Lots of questions here but without more information, I’m guessing detonation but based on your pictures, the head gasket composition does look questionable.  Is this an older set of Fel-Pro head gaskets?  My experience has been that there’s too much material on the intake or pushrod side of the Fel-Pro head gaskets for them to clamp evenly in a performance application.

Some other questions.  Aluminum heads or iron? Were the block decks milled and/or checked for straightness?  How much total timing? Boosted or carbureted? Was the engine under a load when this happened or just idle time?  Compression ratio?  What fuel is being used?  Grade eight head bolts?  What was the head bolt torque?  Etc.

This happened on run in, 2000 RPM no load, 13.5 to 1, china head studs (that's the problem), was going to run it in with light valve springs (didn't make it) then install the inner valve springs. Iron heads
