An electric in line fuel pump to fill the bowls prior to starting will cure this.

Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Do you let the pump run a while to fill the carb bowls?

Is the choke closing properly & the pull off kicking open as it starts?. For instance, some carbs such as Quadrajets can take 4 or 5 pumps to the floor after sitting for a substantial perod in the cold, before they will start..

Mine usually requires a bit different technique after several days even with a modern carb and electric pump.  It seems like the accelerator pump also has to fill and doesn't really do it until I give it a couple pumps of the pedal.  Otherwise, it typically starts with just a bump of the starter.

I just take the air cleaner lid off mine and pour a little gas down the carb if my Fairlane has sat a while. I'll even use a little 2-stroke mix if it sat more than a month. I don't pump it nor even touch the pedal when cranking it. I'll just hit the pedal once before turning the key to set the choke after pouring the gas. It starts almost instantly but stumbles just a little before the carb fills and then smooths out. Once it's idling the air cleaner goes back on.
