The ball and the stud are two pieces,they are pressed together when they are manufactured.The stud has a slot on the upper end to hold a screwdriver which keeps the stud from turning when the retaining nut is tightened up  Carl

For some reason I'm finding this discussion confusing. Isn't the stud and ball one assembly?

Me too ! cant be seperate, maybe its the terminolgy.

I have the left top BJ out and it is the same as the right side. Stud turns but the ball does not. Makes me wonder if the BJ is really bad? The bottom left BJ is the same as right side.
