Like Ted, I too have used Coppercoat for more than 60 years on the gaskets; for the wet bolts either pipe dope or #2 permatex have worked well, as does silicone,all if properly applied.

Me too. As Ranchero, I never thought of copper coat on anything other than the water passage holes on a head gasket.. Always learning. Thanks

Thats interesting, I have never tried it on other gaskets, just use it on head gaskets, I must try it.

Yes, use the gaskets. Permatex #2 isn't thick enough to serve as a gasket on its own.

Yes, use the gasket. Permatex is a gasket sealant and NOT a replacement for the gasket.

I use CopperCoat on both the timing cover and water pump gaskets.

OK, thanks fellas,  So if I use permatex #2,  I coat each housing surface with light coat of sealant.  Do I use paper gaskets supplied also?   I want to be clear so I don't  screw it up.

Pematex is a great all-rounder.  Over here the non hardening one is no3 , but Im sure in the U.S its no2 ?  sticky shit .. Also I think you have one called Indian head? Probably similar I used it when I was over there working on a friends Mustang.

I use Permatex #2 also. I'm old school and probably the last person on the planet that doesn't use silicone or own a cell phone LOL.
