I'm sure this has probably been covered already, but I have a 55 customline with the original exhaust. How are you guys doing duals on these cars? Are there factory rear dump manifolds i could use that fit? I know there are headers as an option. What's y'alls opinions or how have you done it? I tried the search but didnt seem to want to work for me. Thank you.

There are factory dual manifolds. Check in the for sale section of this forum and fordbarn, or eBay. Also Green Sales in Michigan may have some. The best flowing factory pieces are the '57 and later "flat top" manifolds. Most of the passenger car headers don't flow much better if any.

I had a friend that had a 1956 ford Crown Vic with a 292, it had as dual exhaust ! The way the system was installed was the front of the passenger side was caped and the pipe on the driver side came out of the front of the manifold then bent up and around and exited out the back of the driver side at the fire wall! this was a dealer installed dual kit sold by ford!

Thanks for the answers. I'll definitely check those places. But just to clarify, on the drivers side it's tight around the steering and linkage. There ARE headers or manifolds that will dump down right there? And work? haha. I'm very excited about this car. I'm very capable mechanically and i've had several old cars but never a 50s era car. I've wanted a Y block powered car for a while and this one is a little unchartered territory for me, so i've got lots of questions. Thanks again.

Fastbill, after market headers for these cars, according to the research I have done, range from around 200 up to 700 bucks. I will be going with the Yestertech headers, (upper end of that range). My engine is a 312 mid-high performance. Dual quads, clay smith 292S cam, Mummert domed pistons, and budget permitting when the time comes, Mummert aluminum heads. Right now it has stock true dual exhaust cast iron manifolds. I believe they came off a 55 272 4 bbl car. Several of the folks on this site have talked about their experience with some of these aftermarket headers. Hopefully they will chime in. Enjoy that Customline!! :0) Rowen

I have the flat top style on my engine. From what I've read here there is not much to gain from headers. Also I like the look of the manifolds.

Thank you all! I think i'll try to find manifolds. I have a 292 with three two barrels I'd like to build for it in the future. At that point I may try headers.

cap the manifold on pass side wher crosover comes .then buy 1 drivers sid manifold for 55-56 and it will flow plentey for 292.the later drivers side(57)will fit but is a bit tight and costs a bunch more for little hp gain. so unless you ar going racing stay stock.the pas side manifold is quite eficent when handeling 4cylenders. on my 292 in 48f47 pickup i used pas sid manifold on driver side so i could clear oilfilter as well as fire wall with a nice smothe ark. used a big truck rans horn on pas side. (i know i am cheap but it looks ok and will work well)

I'm pretty sure ram horns won't work in the passenger cars. There's always a set of manifolds on ebay. Also post a want ad in the classifieds. I bought mine from a member here that way.
