I have the Canned Monster thread going over in the race section so I thought I'd toss this one up here. I had been looking for a Slick for a while. A long bed 3/4 ton version to pull the gasser around with. Finally found one locally. Super straight and clean with no rust issues to speak of less some surface rust on the floor board. No holes or major body damage of any kind so a super solid starting place. Other than a missing coil the truck was 100% complete. Not running and had been sitting for over a decade. Original V8 truck with four speed, Dana 60.
Paint plans are to match the race car. A color called Persion Red for the main body and a Silver Pearl White for the top. Inside the bed is very clean and even has a straight tail gate. Really amazing how straight it is considering it was a ranch truck.
Back to the engine. While trying to turn it over by had to make sure it all was okay, the engine would get stuck and make a clunk sound. After various tests to see what it could be I finally pulled the pan to find parts of at least one rod and some piston parts. Then I knew it was going to come out. After kicking around a few options I ended up deciding to rebuild the 292 which after pulling apart found was .060 over so in reality a 301. Cylinders were clean with no ride so all looked good.

The day I drug it home.

This is what I found when the pan came off. Not very good.

Fun metal sculptures.

Out with the old. Also after pulling it apart I discovered the heads were mis matched. One had smaller valves than the other.

Ready for the hot tank.

More broken parts. We think the rod when it broke hit the cam breaking this and also the dist. gear. Lots of carnage.

What a cool (not to mention ambitious) project and combination. Thanks for sharing it.

Some more work on the heads done yesterday. Tim McMaster the Y-Block guy is doing the work on everything.
This original ecz-c head with 1.78 intakes and 1.54 exhaust.

Here is the after picture. Intakes are cut and ported or 1.92 valves, exhaust are still 1.54 but the throats are cut out a little larger and hard seats are installed

Lucky to save the block!  Looks like someone did a gunnysack rebuild & it maybe seized?.. Mismatched or wrong year heads is unfortunately fairly common. I'm sure that Tim Mc Master will sort it out for you..

Tim said after pulling it apart that it looked like it ran dry of oil and thats what started the carnage.

Grill is now out of the Monster Hauler. Bumpers are next then a little welding up of some holes then let the sanding begin.

Out with the old and in with the new. A very nice set of clean used .060 over 292 pistons on a set of balanced reconditioned EBU connecting rods.

A minor note on the valve specs..if the  ECZ -C exhaust valves are 1.54" dia, they're not stock, as originals are 1.51 diameter. If they are the bigger ones, what's the source for them & are they unmodified ?

@PF Arcand I'll have to defer that question to Tim McMaster, he's doing the head work.  Here is the bare block ready for assembly. http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/82eb18c1-5847-4cde-bdc7-509b.png
