Just an update for anyone interested. I went with the Wilcap adapter for no other reason than it was quite a bit less money. Took about a month to receive parts, but the parts are great and communication with the company has been great. Got the adapter, flywheel starter and necessary hardware to adapt my 312 y-block to a GM 700r4 or any such bellhousings. The motor and transmission are going in a 1957 Thunderbird that I am in the  middle of doing a frame off restore. I had to do a little fabrication work around the top center cross member to clear the transmission pan. Last night I took the body off the rotissorie and set it back on the frame to rough things up and it fit better than Henry would of done it. Stock shifter will work with very little effort. The drivshaft will have to be lengthened about 3 inches. All and all I'm pleased with the results and I'm sure the old 312 will appreciate the ability to loaf along in high gear. If you have any specific questions give me a shout. apierce@ispmgt.com and I'll try and answer.

I was planning to use the Baumann Engr TCS

http://www.baumannengineering.com/tcs.htm

My tire size is a little more than you guys are using......my rears are 39" diameter. I calculated 504 rear wheel PRM at 60mph. with the 5.83:1 axle and 0.71 E4OD (in OD) I'll get about 2100rpm at 60mph.

Of course when I want low gears......a flip of the switch will shift the 2 speed to 8.11:1 !!!

Sundance,

Based on my Ranger with 3.89's and 29" tall tires, I'm at 23/2400. The truck has a fairly "loose" converter, so the RPM will vary with the amount of throttle. It's a non lock up converter.

The car, has the 26.5 inch tires, but the OD is on the shelf for now, It has a straight three speed. On the street I've installed a 3.25, at the drags I use a 4.56 that I commandered from Hoosier Hurricane. w00t

Hi Frank,

I thought of that. I could probably add the side mounts and there's plenty of room there and I also have the rear cross mount for the E4OD that cam out of the donor F-450........ but with the Rams horn manifolds I thought the exhaust downpipes might be dangerously close to the mounts. I wouldn't want to cook the rubber! Regular manifolds have the left one running directly into the steering box of course...

Side mounts might simplify things and when I get closer I think it will be clearer whether they will work or not. I am excited about using the E4OD. I also was able to obtain the parking brake assy for it too.

I'll have the worlds only 55 F-600 with an automatic and a 2 speed axle!BigGrin

Sorry to hijack the thread.....It appeared that things had slowed a little!

Cheers,

HTX,

This could be totally off the wall, I have not been under an F100 in a hundred years or so, but have you looked at the possibility of using side mounts on the engine and the passenger car mount at the rear of the transmission? You'd have to Fab a crossmember and the engine mounts.

Measure the tire, tell me either the diameter or the circumference. AND, are you sure of the accuracy of the speedometer.

I figure, with a 24" tire and a 70% od ratio, that you should turn 2230 @ 60 or 2600 @ 70 mph. In THIRD or direct drive, and not accounting for converter slippage that would be arund 3700 At 70 or 3180 at 60. 24" is about as short a tire as I can imagine you'd use. My 205x75x15's are about 26.5" tall.
