I have seen some information scattered here and there on the Canadian engines.

While I have a feeling that there will be more questions than answers in this thread , I thought it a good idea to note some of the differences between the US and Canadian counterparts.

My comments are that there seems to be either no machining or any "dot" on a crank on the 312 engines.

I will also comment that I have a block that is cast CECK A that is a 312 engine. The A is underneath the CECK

Mummert states there are no 312 blocks cast as ECK, so I am guessing the "A" suffix designates a 312?

Obviously the "C" in the CECK stands for Canadian.

Canadian blocks also seem to only be marked by the distributor pad area and never on the sides of the block.

Can someone tell me where these Canadian engines are cast?

Please add on fellows.

as you may know the c in front of eck stands for a Canadian block.these blocks can be 292 or 312 I had both.i had a 312 crank from a 56 merc and it had the dot I have one now from a 57 and theres nothing the notch wasn't even cut out.these blocks would have been cast somewhere in Ontario but I don't know where.i never saw any after 56.all blocks I saw after had the same casting marks as us blocks. ialso have a CEBY block which was a 256 from a 55 truck

The blocks were Cast in the Windsor Ontario Ford Plant. Also the source of the later "Small block" 302's and 351's.

CECK blocks are usually all cast from the Ford Windsor, Ontario plant and come in both 292 and 312 cubic inch. Crankshafts for the 312 regularly came without the aspiirin size dot, especially in the run from 1957. There are also other blocks with the similar C prefix of 272 and 292 that may be found in Canada, Australia and other parts of the world, as Ford of Canada was also an export station, serving several countries.

Right, I have a CEBY block with ECZ-C heads that came from a 1956 Mercury pickup.

Another difference between the 312 Canadian blocks and the USA mfg'd 312 blocks is the 1957Canadian 312 blocks I have seen have the heavier webbing on the mains bearing supports and the main bearing bolt holes drilled deeper even through to the oil gallery by the filter, though not tapped through.

These heaver main bearing webs are like the USA B9AE and C2AEblocks. I have never had to drill the bolt holes deeper to install studs in a57 Canadian block only on the 56 Canadian 312 blocks. The 1956 Canadian 312engines don't have these heavier webs or the bolt holes drilled as deep as the57 engines.

Did Ford use the Canadian manufacturing plant as the guinea pigto test design the heavier webbed Y block? I don't know.

The 1956 Canadian 312 blocks will have a TV stamped on the left front of the block just below the cylinder head parting line and the 57 Canadian 312's will have VV in the same location. If you see VV stamped it is a1957 312 Canadian block.

CECK can either be a 292 or 312 engine.

Man this typing problem and missing letters is annoying!

could be wrong ,but have a owners manual for 55-56 ford meteor cars.it showed only 272 and 292 engines avail in ford cars,292s wher 4vs. the pickups showed 239 for 55 272 for ford and mercurey pickups in 56, showing no 4v option. that does not mean that some special order with 312 could be so. the meatey canadian blocks wher probly to keep the industrial market happy as all lumber carriers had power coming off the front for lifting the lumber, i do know early on front necks of the cast cranks wher subject to breaking, mostly du to constent shock, and poor alighnement of the front gear box
