OK, we know how we feel about loud pipes on M/Cs. How about the original question? Straight pipes on a 292 Galaxie.

I think even a young guy will get tired of the noise real quick with straight pipes.

Scary Huh? The horn and switches are Denso. NOT Lucas. Even Triumph couldn't stand their parts!
Don't cut the pipes off the Galaxy add cutouts, then you can have it both ways!

Flowmaster 40s I believe are race mufflers or close to it..plenty loud as is. People on MCs & car owners that insist on running without mufflers should be ticketed. The public in urban areas are already subject to having their ears assaulted with excessive noise on an on going basis... I like the sound of a good running engine as well as anyone, but the noise level needs to be reasonable.

You pick your poison I guess, I live quiet and enjoy when someone opens up a Harley, and there's a couple street rods out here which once in a while will let it rip much to my auditory amusement. Then there's my Y which is what the old farts say is the way a car should sound. Sound police not my thing.

I've always said that the sweetest sounds in world were a flathead, Y-Block & a Harley, but when the neighbor across the lake fires up his Harley at 5AM and heads to work, that can fall off my list real soon. I'm running dual Smitty's and sweet is all I can say. Gary

Im running split 2" with 22" smithy's about halway along maybe a bit of the muff is forward of the the heat sheild... Sweetest sound ..BigGrin

I was running straight pipes on the flathead in the 35 but Im sick of it just didnt sound right.. It did sound like a small motor trying to hard ... Satisfied I have since put on two short 12" glasspacks but unfortuneately I have a rear wheel cyl leak so Im going nowhere until the hub puller turns up .. Dang! Angry
