I figured that it was the Mummert heads he was talking about. My friend said that he didn't even know anything about the Mummert heads, I told him they've been around for several years now. He is an FE guy, but like me, loves all Ford stuff. I have Y's, 5.0's, Clevelands and mod motors...and I love them all. Thanks for weighing in John..

Rumours about Edelbrock casting their own Y-Block heads seems very unlikely. They are already making a profit casting & machining Mummert's heads. Why would they also want to enter the limited market themselves?.. Doesn't make any sense as I see it.. As for the Tri Power intakes, they likely dropped that idea because there are so many original used ones available.

small steps. edelbrock decided it was not profitable to make the 3x2 intake. they posted a response on the HAMB regarding this. if they decide it make anything Y related, it should be the vintage classic finned valve covers. i'd heard the mummert heads were being machined there also. be thankful they're not being made in china.

Thanks john, that should bring everyone up to speed, we appreciate the effort and frustration you endure. I know from over here that there is definite demand for the heads. Best regards bill.

I suspect what James friend was talking about is the fact that they are machining our heads, so there are lots of Y-Block heads at Edelbrock's Corporate machine shop which is part of the same complex as the offices. We have spent 2 days up there going over machining of the heads. I knew they were working on the 4.0L Jeep head. As far as the 3-2 Y-Block intake goes, Vic wants to do it but the board of directors or who ever is making those decisions doesn't want to. I sent them pics of their Y-Block valve cover and tried to talk them in to it. I think it would be more profitable then the 3-2 intake. Back to our heads, we have received 2 heads that look very good and they are working on getting more finished.

Bill I've never had the opportunity to see the Edelbrock Foundry or machining. I'm sure it's very impressive, I have seen the sales brochures and it looks very modern and clean. I guess my point was that, at least in the Midwest US there's still a few Automotive style foundries capable of running John's parts. It didn't work for me because my volumes were so small that they didn't want to deal with me. I worked for a number of years for Winters in Ohio, where we made all the scrub stuff, Aluminum intakes, early FI stuff for the Corvette, L88 intakes, Pontiac Ram air V's, the original Viper blocks and heads, Can-am 500" blocks blah, blah. I can usually tell pretty quickly what a foundry is capable of. I think John will be able to find some one else if he needs to. However, like someone said, we heard this rumour 6-8 years ago, Heard about the re-incarnated Three two manifold etc, and nothing. John will have a better feel than any of us as to the validity of their statements and I'm sure he'll pull the patterns if he thinks Vic is planning something. I'm not going to worry about it until I see it. I don't believe them. OH, and for what it's worth, I tried one of Vic's Pontiac intakes that they recommended years ago on a GTO. It went considerably slower than the Factory Aluminum Ram air intake, or even the stock Cast iron 4bbl. Not impressed. Luckily I was able to sell it for about what I paid for it to a competitor!

charliemccraney (6/16/2013) IF Edelbrock did start making them, they probably would no longer cast the Mummert heads because he is then their competition. IF John couldn't find a place to have them cast, which was an issue to start, Edelbrock would be the only show in town. There would be no option.
I really don't have anything against Edelbrock, but I wouldn't hold my breath.Charlie, You'd be surprised at the number of Aluminum foundries that would be happy to run John's patterns. He may have to have them shipped to him from a longer distance, but they're out there. Think Dart, Hot Heads, Holley, etc. I'll bet none of them use Edelbrock's foundry. Distance and machining would become the issues for John. Frank, i guess main advantage with edelbrock is their machining programmes that would see heads progress quicker than john getting to them? Yes as with everything nowadays, quality is out the window and price seems to be main concern to buyers. How many people do you know that scour the net looking for the cheapest item and bag the dearer ones as ripoffs! ha, most are dearer due to not being cheap chinese products generally. just a thought!
