Guys:

Yes, heredity plays a part. Dad had heart problems and strokes. His first heart attack was at the same age I am now. Mom had cancer. I'll have to play the hand that's been dealt me. Bill, you mentioned delays causing more damage. I figured they're getting ready for when we have government health care. They will keep dragging their feet with the old people so they will die waiting for treatment. That way the gov. won't have to pay for their medical care and can stop paying them social security.

Frank, I did use to smoke. Started in high school, quit when I was in my early 30s. When I tell the doctors I quit 40 years ago, they all say "good for you". By the way, my family Doc said I could drive my power steering tractor, so I've been planting soybeans. I didn't tell him that the planter tractor has no power steering or that the beans are 60# a bag. I've had no problems so far.

Tomorrow noon is my consultation with the surgeon. I'll post what happen next.

John, are you still supplying Ford Motor Co with the Soy beans? chuckle.

OK, here's the latest. Saw the surgeon today. He said medication and stents are not good options for me, so surgery is scheduled for next Wed. at 7:30 AM. He said to expect 3 to 5 bypasses, plus some laser treatment of arteries too small to bypass. About a 4 hour surgery, 4 to 5 days in the hospital, 2 to 3 months for total recovery. He said that at that time I could do anything I wanted. My wife takes exception to that.

John, I had a heart attack and a double bypass in 1998, 2 days after I felt like I was 25 again. took me 3 months to recover, then wasn't alowed to lift more than 15 lbs for another 9 months. (no raking leaves, or riding my horse either) One year and 3 days from my operation I was on my horse's back flying thru the local park. I'm 71 now, still ride once a week, I'm slowing down but not because of my heart, do what the doc tells you, most importain, don't do what he tells you not too. Good luck....Lou

watch out fellow yblockers! It sounds like John F. will likely be at Columbus this late August with a new secret weapon. As if he didn't win enough already! BigGrin

My prayers are with you John.

John, prayers going up from Texas for you. One of my Goldwing rider friends had emergency stints and feels MUCH better, the surgery should accomplish the same thing. See you in August!

John,

I expect you will have a very good outcome. I worked in Radiology for many years and assisted in angiography, cardiac cath lab, etc. The improvement of opening up restricted arteries and allowing for better oxygenating of the blood stream can bring remarkable changes. Having not smoked in so many years is a big plus. Good luck.

OK guys, this is it. Tomorrow morning at 7:30 I finally start my operation. Still looking forward to it. I'll be absent here for about 5 days, so I'm counting on all of you to keep the interesting and informative chatter going. Again, thanks for all the well wishes and prayers.
