Master Cylinder, I don't know what city you are in but there is a guy near me (Camarillo) that could probably help you with your tailgate. He has a small rod shop and is a pretty good metal man. He did some work on a friends car awhile back. If you are interested I can get you his address and phone number.

Mr. Lord, I just did the same thing (to my floor) in my '55 ranch Wagon then coated the entire floor with Rust Bullet. RUST BULLET. Then covered the whole mess with Dynamat.

Looks like a good stuff. It's only harder to get in here, cause my other choice, POR15 got a local seller.

I fabricated a new skin for the lower 5". Not too hard but you need a sheet metal roller to get the curve right. You would think
one of the aftermarket patch panel suppliers would make these, as common as this problem is. Not enough wagons left out there I guess.

I agree. Wish someone would make them. I don't have the skills or equipment to fab myself. I was surprised to see a company FINALLY repo a gas tank for the wagons altho it appears to be made out of two bottom halves?? w00t Auto City Classic

I feel your pain. just finished replacing the floor in my 56, and the rockers and the quarter panels, lower tailgate etc.,etc. Rust never sleeps.

On your lower tailgate, did you find a good donor or did you have a piece made? I'm facing the same thing and looking for info. Seems to be a common problem of station wagon tailgates, my '55 is a California car with very little rust elsewhere, but the bottom of the tail gate.

Any info appreciated.

I had a light glove but it was sucked around the machine and without it damage might be less. Next time I have proper leather gloves, if I learn something.

That sucks. Wear gloves, my friend! They are a last line of defense against out of control power tools.

That rust remover in first pic is quite good. It removed also my skin from my right hand.

...and I cannot blame anybody else but me again.
