John, thanks for pictures and details, you have the bottom end pretty stock, i was sure you would of had steel or reinforced main caps, a y block looks so good in A model coupes. We all wish john (owner) and your crew the best results on race day.

Heck I thought we left those chambers pretty big .. It our first race motor in a few years. Trying manufacture parts has really eaten up the time to do the fun things. This motor is giving us a chance to try things that have been on the drawing board for a while.
Bill by reducing the weight of the rotating internals it effectively increases the strength of the existing parts. We feel that Y is starting to produce the HP per/ci of the later V-8s but we feel its a little heavy. Obviously the host of aluminum parts being manufactured help combat this. Our opinion is that the block is one part that could use a diet. Its an experiment as many other things, so we'll give it a whirl and see where it takes us.

Thanks for posting the pictures and the video and thanks to everybody who took the time and effort to set-up the event. Events like these are the most fun for our group. Hopefully we can continue to have more events around the country and get everybody together to share information and enjoy our special cars. I regret missing the event, but I am making progress on getting my car and new parts combo dialed in. I've been spending time right now setting-up for race trim right now, and I'm about to begin transitioning it to prepare for the first part of Hot Rod's Power Tour starting June 1st. My goal is to start making some vintage drag races with it.

The first annual West Coast Y-block Shootout is now one for the history books. The weather held out just long enough . T Time trials took place before lunch. Half of the cars were on the track for first time and they were getting a little quicker each time they made a pass. Lunch time came around and I think everyone ate too much, I know I did. The barbecue was beyond expectations. After lunch the double elimination Shootout bracket race got underway. Todd Ferguson bested the field in the white 56 T bird. I wanted to says thanks to Joe ,Charley, Buzz, Al, Todd and John for showing the cars and racing.. We had some lookers out there.
The sponsors made it possible to handout some nice prizes. Bob Martin Ernie Phillips Schneider Racing Cams Hilltop Classics Crower Cams & Equipment JBA Bruce Young Dana Sniff Transmissions We'll have more photos and and even some in car footage as well.
The coupe ran a best of 6.36 @ 105.4 mph.. So were making a little progress.
