Something about this race really resonates with me... maybe because I grew up in deep south Texas just across from the boarder, going into Matamoros for supper on occasion.

I'd really like to see the '54 details... pics of the engine, interior, undercarriage... and hear about what's in the car and how it was built!

Anyplace to find this info?

Seppo, Congrats to the Finn team which finished 6th in Historic C class and 14th overall in a '64 Falcon w/ a 302 which is a very good showing in a very competitive class.

We battled it out in Original Class w/ a beautiful pre '54 porsche driven by Dutch F1 and 3 x Le mans winner Gijs van Lennep. In the real twisty speed sections it was reported that he was heard repeating

" not good for the Ford "  as he was light and very quick yet we would make it up on the high speed sections and pulled away to a 2 minutes lead at the finish. Lauren will post in car video  on her blog .

Unfortunatly other cars in our class had problems ,the 1950 Lincoln ( flat head V8 ) did not make it down

to the start and one  '53 Lincoln capri blew it's motor the second day and the '54 lincoln capri ran slow toward the end w/ rear end issues . The beautiful '54 Chrysler  had trans problems the  fifth day .

As you know it is a test of endurance ... both for the cars and drivers + navigators.. everyone that finishes is a winner and Iam very satisfied that in the last three years w/ my daughter as co-pilot  this year we finished every speed section every day for all seven days . That's why we finished 32 overall in a 4000lbs '54 Ford powered by a 230hp/300tq Y block.

Thanks all for your encouragement . This event is difficult to discribe if one has not  followed along .

It's all about the cars  ( from all over the world ) the people not only the  competitors and crews but the people of Mexico who are unbelieveably enthusiastic and most of all the beautiful country of Mexico .

Where else can you go unlimited speed on closed roads for seven days in "vintage " cars ?

My '54 Ford Victoria was built by Tom Rolland in Round Rock Tx who campaigned it in '04+'06.

He striped it down to bare shell and put it back specificly for this rally. It's strip out w/ full cage ,two FIA race seats + 5 point race belts , full set of auto meter gauges, intercom system , 22 gal cell w/double fuel pumps , filters, full skid plates underside, reinforsed A arms, all neo bushings ,custom leafs in back and front coils , race shocks ,big alum rad w/ elect fans, race power steering system oil cooler , alum jack and spare tire in trunk w/ bag of tools.all side windows are plexiglas. Three speed top loader w/ overdrive sytem ( gear-vender) , 9 " floater rear end . 15x7 steel wheels  and 225/60/15   w/ BFG G force sport

engine was built by John Mummert in '06 and we now have 6 la carrera'a and two chihuahua express rallys on it . Custom coated headers, Holly 600cfm HP DB w/ 2" carb spacer ( thanks Ted )

did I mention the harmonic balancer came loose last week. we pulled over and another service crew cut it of in about 10 minutes and off we went... runs just fine less about 10lbs. She's a war horse and handles like a sports car like dependable like a F100 truck. Watch out porsches .

Thanks for the details on your car!

do you happen to have any pics of the car you could post?

I enjoy reading the blog and the pics there; just longing to see some under-hood shots and so forth!

thanks,Mark

I forgot to mention two other cars in our class

a beautiful '54 Nash which slide into a ditch on day four which put it on the trailer

and a fabulous '53 Hudson Hornet which suffered a collapsed front wheel but  made repairs and carried on to the finish

our friends in exhibition class with a '49 Caddy on a Z06 chassie www.usa476 .blogspot.com
