I've been looking and I'm having trouble finding any 55-56 Ford car headers for a 292. Anyone know of a brand that makes 'em? I don't see a listing from Sanderson, Kooks, Speedway etc. See 'em for 53-56 trucks but not for cars.

Am I stuck having to build custom headers for this car?

Brad;

There are a couple of sources that I know of. Jerry Christensen who advertises in YBM makes passenger car headers. John Mummmert shows a set on his website, but I don't think they are in production yet. I'm using a set of dual tube headers from "Reds Headers". Some folks think that if you are just running a mild performance street motor, the 1957 stock EDB dual exhaust will be just fine.

Duh! I completely forgot to check Red's. Thanks!

From what the guy that I bought it from told me it's a bone stock rebuild of the 292 so no real performance goodies....yet. BigGrin

So headers won't help out a stock motor any? I always love the better sound with headers plus always assumed headers would always help when compared to manifolds. But I'm still learning my way around the y blocks.

Ron's correct on the '57 manifolds (with duals) being pretty effective for street use. They still sound pretty good too. I have to run them on my '57 F code for one class I run. I tried one time to run an older set of Hedmans with 3" collectors. Ran exactly the same as it does with the manifolds and full exhaust. AND I took off about 75# of pipes when I ran the headers.

REX High Performance is now making headers, as well as all the other neat Y-Block engine parts. See: www.rexhp.com or email Gord at rexrep@telusplanet.net

I think that the cast aluminum headers at REX High Performance are one of his future projects. They don't seem to be available yet.

I emailed the REX rep about the headers on 7/22 in response to a bulk email they sent, got no reply, seems the vendors know the market better than the engineering.

Talked to Gord at Rex today, nice guy, he said they've only been building one-off sets of headers up to this point. But he said there's been enough demand that they decided to mass produce sets. He said he's looking at around November for them to be available.
