Fellas, the photo below is my current project, a mildly modified 272 ECG block that has a new mild cam, new rings, new bearings, etc to freshen it up. Excellent compression and tuned well (according to my specs, lol). Since this is the second one I have done like this on an engine run stand, and I have already begun assembling a C2AE block to hold a 312 crank, 471 heads, Isky blower cam, supercharger, and a few other goodies, it looks as if this is something that I will continue to do until I eventually acquire the car my built motor will go in.

I need an idea or two on rigging up a lever throttle control, much like what I have seen in the dynamometer videos. The only thing I can think of is a boat lever control or something...but do I really need something that expensive for what I am doing? I could rig something up, but I guess I am looking to either purchase or fabricate a throttle control that is a little bit more than a cable and knob, but not quite a throttle lever for a boat.

BTW, looks like I may have scored two free 292 blocks about 4 hours away from me. I rebuilt a teapot for an elderly gentlmen, and he was so happy with the work and service he offered them both to me if I would just come down and pick them up... I will let you know more later... BUT, it looks like there is a set of G heads to come.

Dan

I dont have a good suggestion about a throttle hookup but I do have a question about where that great looking stand came from?

Daniel

your timing is impeccable, i have nearly completed my motor which is still on the stand and your pictures of your test stand are just what the doctor ordered. what size is your box tubing? re throttle, how about a manual choke arrangement?

Fellas,

I purchased this run stand a few year back, but I have obviously modified it to receive our Y block. It does look turn key and very clean, that's for sure. The company was called "Larin" and the Eastwood Compny up in PA used to sell these things about 3 years ago. I tried to buy another last year, and they simply told me that they no longer carry them. I believe the company is up in Canada. Here is a link to one for sale from some outlet I do not recognize....

I did not pay that much for mine. Something like $375 rings a bell. You could make your own, but for time constraints and all that it offered, I went ahead and purchased the kit. I did put 8" pneumatic tires on mine as you can see. The casters it shipped with were too short to get my engine hoist legs underneath of the frame of the run stand. I also purchased SAE gauges instead of the metric stuff it came with. And,,, I also fabbed up an angle iron fram to hold the radiator. I put an electric pump switch with bracket, etc, etc, etc.

I am looking to add a throttle lever that has some spring action to it so I can blip the throttle, but of course I also need a way to lock it down so I can easily break the camshaft/lifters in. The other day on this engine I felt pretty stupid when I cranked it up and was so happy at the initial start up and tune that when I was holding the carb butterflies open by hand I thought to myself... now what, lol. I could have shut it down, but it was running so well, I just stood there and held it. It's a Y block thing... all of us understand that! Tongue

Some PTO cables have a lockable feature.  NAPA carries them.
