I'll have pictures. It's just an attached two car garage so it's tight but a whole lot better than what I had. Nothing fancy, yet. And no homeowners association!

We're pulling for you Charlie. You must bring pictures of the house and garage.

I'm going to check things out next weekend. I have a set of original rocker assemblies, and spare pushrods. I'm bringing my points distributor and coil which I will have set up so I can use the Duraspark cap and rotor for a pretty easy swap if needed - all I had to do is to make a firewall pigtail for the hot wire and make a different coil wire to work with the male terminals on the cap and I'll bring a set of plugs gapped for the lower energy points ignition so I don't have to do that on the side of the road. I've ordered a higher pressure fuel pump which I'll get mounted this week to ensure that I can swap it quickly if needed. I may just leave it on since the carb manual indicates that 5 - 7 psi is optimal and I only have about 4 with the current pump. In either case, I'll have a backup. That should be all of the significant stuff.

If I have all of this stuff, then I won't need it, so I should be good.

I had an issue with the brakes last week. The pedal went to the floor Wednesday morning. The front brake reservoir was empty. It looked like a leak occured at the fitting splitting the line for the front brakes. I cleaned it up as best I could, filled the master cylinder, and bled it and now it doesn't seem to be leaking!!?? I never had anything indicating a problem until I got in it that morning and the pedal went to the floor. So I need to figure out what is up with that.

Having my new house makes all of this a whole lot easier, though. I don't have to drive to a friend's house and work in the sun anymore, rather from the convenience of my own garage!

For me, a trailer, or hauler just isn't an option, yet. If I want to bring it, I gotta drive it.

My most common problems have been pushrods and rocker arms. I have spare push rods and I'll have a set of rocker arms that I'll bring along. The only other things that have me slightly, unfoundedly, concerned are the ignition system and fuel pump, mostly because they're electronic/electric. I haven't had any issues with them whatsoever but if they do fail, I won't be able to get a replacement easily en-route. I am thinking about getting a higher pressure pump that I will install for the racing and cruising around up there, if I do then I can use it as a backup and I can always bring my points distributor and coil. I just don't want to bring a whole lot of stuff because it's going to be two guys, luggage, computers, cameras, and I'm picking up stuff to bring back. With the spare tire in the bed, there's not a whole lot of room to spare. But, I know if I have them, I won't need them.

My trip to see Reed and Bill earlier this year went real well. That round trip is about 2/3 one way to Columbus and my latest rocker arm issue occurred quite a few miles after that. So hopefully I will get there before something breaks!

The thing that upsets me is that it's always the new stuff breaking.

Wish you were coming Alan because I won't be bringing my bird and we sure could use some street birds competing. Instead I'll be bringing my 56 Sunliner in it's place. I'm still putting my money on the street birds and and hoping there numbers will pick up. My new crank simply didn't get back in time enough for Ted to finish the enginew00t.

Hey Charlie, I'm not going this year but I wish you the best trip. I've driven my bird up to Columbus before and it's a similar distance from my place to what you are about to do.

A lot of guys on here wouldn't even think about it without a trailer or a chase vehicle!

This is your year. You can do it.
