Amen, it is funny some of the catalog shops are starting to get more Y block stuff, I am running an Offy 3x2(I know, I know) but just waiting to find a better 3x2 manifold for the right price.  I saw on Reds that they were taking preorders (waiting list) http://reds-headers.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=819

I signed up but have not heard anything back--anyone know if they are just getting interest # for Vic or legitemately taking orders?

From the catalog:

FORD 272-312 Y-BLOCK V8
TRIPLE DEUCE MANIFOLDS
These are "reproductions of the original" Edelbrock FM 553 and FM 573... (quotes added)

My used "original" I bought from someone here.  If I am going to buy an original I would rather the money go to a Y person here that at least likes the Y.

You know Edelbrock is going to charge a hefty premium to the crowd and laugh all the way to the bank.  If I were to spend $400.00+ on a new 3 deuce intake I would rather it go for one that was designed by someone who really understands the Y and the potential.

Rather than Edelbrock on it, I would rather it had Mummert.

That's my take on it...

Since the new manifolds were first in the catalog, a 553 and 573 has been offered, even indicating that one has larger runners than the other in the text. I think something else is going on. Hopefully they get it done.

Even if Vic doesn't like them, hopefully he's changed his tune to that of a profitable CEO in regards to the Y. I'd produce parts for something I didn't like if I thought I could make a buck off of it; If I was made CEO of Edelbrock tomorrow, I sure would not stop producing SBC partsBigGrin

While he may have changed his tune some recently, it's not a secret that Vic Edelbrock II, made it clear some time back that he did not like Ford Y-Blocks. Reportly described the engine as "terrible"! ...

Edelbrock hasn't even thought about the Y-Block enthusiast for decades, so it's not surprising their tech awareness is stuck in the dirt. Thank-You John for sharing your input with them, I only hope they listen and ultimately offer something we can use.

They were hot on the project earlier this year but it turns out they were using a 553 as a sample. When they saw the differences between a 553 and 573 they decided to start over. Last I heard the plan is to cast them with 553 port openings and CNC 573 port openings into the ones sold as 573's.

I made a few suggestions such as coil mounts and short threaded bosses in the back for 54-56 2bbl cars throttle linkage. They could sell extensions for the people that actually need those mounts. Most 553 manifolds have those bosses cut off to clear the later distributors so its not a good idea to cast them full length on all manifolds.

Don't know if they will do any of this.

The latest word I have from an Edelbrock insider is that the listing was put into the current catalogue to gauge what the market demand actually is for that particular intake.  The number of requests through the various dealers will help to determine if the manifold will be actually produced or not.  Edelbrock has done this with some of the other vintage manifolds of which some have gone into actual production.  With that in mind, just call requesting the manifold and get those numbers up!

Talked to tech support at edelbrock about 573 manifold. They were very evasive about when or if it would be available.

I was chating with Ryan C. over on the HAMB and he said the Edelbrock was going to make him a matched port intake to any set of heads he wanted. (Mummert heads) I guess social position has its advantages.

Charlie: I live in one of those "ridiculous places." In order to apply for Collector license plates, in British Columbia Canada, the car must pass a "basic" emmissions test. What is the standard? No one seems to know. My 57 car failed twice, even after I had a mechanic work on it. With help from people on this site, I was able to ascertain what the problems were, and to adjust the carb & valves properly, & it passed.
