I've had a set of Smitty's on mine for close to 10 years now. They aren't a whole lot louder than stock at idle, and to me, they sound just great when you step on it. Even my scrub buddies comment on how good it sounds.

Search the tech forum under "exhaust". There are some options there and some shots of what I did about mufflers. 2.25 would work but I don't know if you would know the difference without a before and after dyno test. I use 2" - easier to bend in and around and works great.

Now that I have the Blue Thunder/Demon on the 'bird and the MSD dizzy (found out the hard way why many of you questioned me running the Loadomatic), I am ready for the Ford Power Train headers.
Since I screwed up last time with the dizzy, I thought I would come to you guys first for suggestions on the exhaust. You pretty much know the basics already, BT intake/525 Road Demon/ FPT headers and that's pretty much it beyond stock. Since I rarely drive the thing hard, I am thinking about 2.25 pipes (unless you guys convince me there is a reason to go down to 2").
Mufflers are the main thing I am looking for input on. My initial thought is to use Borla's (we did a dyno shoot out for HR and they were the only one's to increase hp over straight pipe). But, since I am not trying to squeeze every bit of power out of it (and because a 312 is not a SBC test mule) I am open to mufflers that might have a nicer sound with the Y. Right now the car appears to have a Midas special on it, just long turbo style mufflers (with a few holes), no resonators and straight 2" out the back. It's not too loud now, so I don't mind suggestions that will increase noise a bit.
Thanks in advance
