Earl: First, you don't mention what heads you have on hand. ?.  Also, what Tri Power manifold are you using? If it happens to be an Offenhauser, sell it to somebody who wants the look but isn't needing more performance. Offy's are a very poor internal design. A 4 barrel setup will out perform them easily.

Any of the big valve heads are a good bet. The posted G heads are considered the best, but 113's are maybe easer to locate and all 113's are posted. If you are going to pay someone to work a set of heads, then it only makes sense to start with the best factory heads.

If you check on the old forums you can find more about heads and headwork tips. Also John Mummert's website explains the common things you need to know. Any used heads will most likely need overhaul and machining of some kind, it just depends on your wallet size as to what you want to achieve. I believe that good headwork is essential to a well performing engine as opposed to adding on things. In other words-Good heads and stock everything else is probably better than sticking on a bigger carb or headers. Of course most people don't do it this way since its not as easy or cost friendly. BUT if you do the heads as a primary thing- it will handle more easily what you throw at it Like Cam Carbs and Headers etc. Just my 2 cents.

i have 292 y blocker just dying to get some new energy.I am new at this engine building and i would like to know which heads would be a better choice to use other than stock that will fit. enging is stock with 3x2s, petronix ignition, sanderson headers. have heard very little on which heads would be able to rework to do well. this car is daily driver most of the time. just want engine to have some guts when i hit the pedal at times . anyone havig some heads read that are for sale let me know. will take ones needing to be re-worked thanks a ton Earl  55 birdman
