I see a dab of something on the rod bearings. What do you use? Also what pistons and rings are you using? Looks to be going together well. Good job!

Ol'ford nut (3/4/2010) I see a dab of something on the rod bearings. What do you use? Also what pistons and rings are you using? Looks to be going together well. Good job!I use Sta-Lube moly graphite on the bearings and the cam, but I put Michigan assembly lube in the cylinders (STP works too ) followed buy a couple of squirts of motor oil on the rings before stabbing the pistons in. The pistons are Kieth Black "Claimers" rings are Sealed Power cast. I use cast rings on an engine like this so they will seat faster, also with this type of piston the top ring has been moved closer to the top so you need to file them for a larger end gap. (at least .004" per 1" of bore) I like to give them about .020" gap as I have seen guys forget to do this and bust the top of the piston out when the ends come together.

A little more engine "Fun" on Sunday. Got some good ideas for cockpit lay-out on Saturday while looking around at the March Meets. I think I'm going with a foot brake, shifter on the high right side and a small switch panel over the top of the rearend. None of this is going to be set permanent till I sit in the car and get a feel for what is comfortable and in my reach. and now my engine.

Tim, the engine looks like....NOSTALGIA . One thought, has it ever happened with Y that rockers slide off from push rod due those springs beeing there. In some high revving 4 cylinder race engines (Rallying ones) those springs have been replaced by aluminum tubes to keep rockers in right place. Keep going, may is just around the corner . Here is our cockpit. (wonder where that name comes...) Arrow on the right means "Speed Up" and arrow at the left means "Slow Down" . Just to make things easy to remember at 990 feet....

Please remember to put you kill switch where you can get to it with gloves on and a hung throtle. Have seen it several times when rubber or something else is picked up and tossed in the air and sticks on the linkage. If you have some sort of a scoop covering the linkage it is less likley to happen. Food for thought.

Tim, I have wondered about the use of sleeves also, lose a tiny bit of tension with them. Also the removal of material on the the valve end of rocker not in contact with valve.
