Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words.  I too am looking forward to some timed runs but for now the FED is on the back burner so to speak, Charlie and I will be concentrating on the Yellow Brick and Bonneville.  We have one meet left at El Mirage in July then off to the salt.  When that is behind us I will get back on Elwood and get him down to Baketown.  And Yes Chuck I plan on shortening the Zoomies. Took the head off Elwood yesterday and found I have a cracked block! :-( Oh well that's racing, guess I will run the engine I had planed for my truck to make the Oct. 9th Eagle Field meet.

Maybe sleeving to 4" wasn't the best idea, ran great though. Wink  Does Mr. Eaton have an idea how to avoid this if I do another block, the internals are still good I kinda hate to waste them.

What do you think is the cause? Too much heat, or that the structural integrity of the block was compromised when sleeving?

Maybe you can remove the sleeves, and install some bracing between the cylinders, under the deck. Screw them in place, and mill them flush. If there's room, cross bolt them from the outside of the block and inside the valley. From there, you maybe able to make some braces into the valley which tie the under the deck braces together between the two sides, further increasing the rigidness of the block.

If you need more cooling, can you use copper head gaskets to help transfer more of the heat from the top of the cylinders?

run it dry and burn methanol...it'll run cool enough.  Save you some weight on the radiator and water pump too.

I'm looking into some solid copper head gaskets with holes for the studs and cylinders only, the block is filled and the heads are the only thing that water flows so I may just bolt them on and go.

Alky?  Maybe later, it's a gas class that I run it in right now but who knows what the future holds. Wink

I'm sure the "integrity" was compromised in the sleeving and the heat is a factor, the Moroso block filler I used is supposed to expand at the same rate as the iron and weigh the same as water but that may or may not be the case.  Either way this motor is not completely dead yet. Smile

Tim, i.m curious what effect did that crack have with the block being filled? i,m assuming the headgasket firerings bite down hard to seal, could you just fill that crack with metal filler and dress flat? i have had 4"er here for years on stand, not run yet but your problem has me concerned. As you know theres not much deck integrity left when doing 4" bore.Cool
