This started just as a cheap way to get into Y block racing, after looking all over the southeast for a 57 Custom that I could afford, I ran accross this thing on it's way to the crusher. I gave the guy $300 for it and later picked up a parts car for $150. Still wanted a 57 though and finally found one out in TX, but after dragging it home (you can just see it in one of the pictures) I realized that it was going to take a lot of body work. I ran accross a picture of a 67 Falcon that was raced in south TX in the late 60's with a SHOC and really liked the looks of it. So now I have put the 57 on hold and am really getting into this thing. Still going to be a fairly inexpensive race car but I am having a lot of fun trying to build it as if it were built in the 60's.

Right now all I have is a couple of small elec heaters, but it is well insulated and with the weather that we have been having, I've been working out there every day. The shop is my pride and joy and the reason my car projects have been slowed down for the last couple of years. I decided that I was to old to work under the pecam tree any more. A lot of money but what the hell I can't carry it with me and at least now when the goverment finally gets it they will have to sell it to someone else.

Of all of the reasons I've heard for car projects to slow down, that's probably the best one.

Since it's warm enough to work in, I'm willing to help for a weekend, or maybe a few, until it gets warm enough over here to work in the driveway. But my weekends are Sun and Mon.

That Falcon looks good!What steering box are you useing?Im building my 55 sedan into a gasser.Im useing a  mid 60s Econoline axel.Im trying to figure out the steering,cross steering or drag link style like the original Econoline steering?It looks like you are useing a cross steer?

The front end is from a 65 econoline narrowed 4 3/4", 64 F100 springs w/ one leaf removed, 63 Galaxie steering box, late Jeep 2 wheel drive drag link shortend for the cross steer, 57 ford steering arm cut off, bolted and welded to the righthand econoline spindle. When I pull the mockup engine, I will try to get some pictures of it.

The shop is 40 X 50 with 10' high walls and still not big enough, between my wife's stuff and my stuff. we filled it up fast.

Thanks for the offer to help Charlie, right now after the holidays funds are exhausted, so I'm just working on the body stuff and fitting chassis parts. When I get a little ahead again and get serious I'll let you know.

Thanx Glen,Ive seen other gasser cars done in the same fashion,Ive always wondered how the front end doesnt move side to side without a panhard bar?I guess it works.Im going to be useing the stock econoline leafs.Did you narrow that axel yourself?

The leaf springs keep the axle tracking true just as in the orginal application. Yes I narrowed the axle myself, although I did take it to a certified welding shop for the weld up. I built a heavy jig out of 4x4 tubing, bolted the axle to it at the spring pads and made the cuts  offset from the centerline, Then moved it in beveled the heck out of the cut lines, rebolted it to the heavy 4x4 and had the welding shop weld it back together. Just like Hubert Platt did in 1964. By the way I have the axle set at 10 degrees neg caster. The reason I went with the F100 springs is that they are shorter than the Econoline springs, and the short trailer springs from MAS or Speedway just did not do it for me. I have a MAS tube axle for Econoline spindles that I decided not to use if anyone is interested, I'll make them a heck of a deal on it.

I worked on getting a dash back in the car today, turned out pretty good, well post a picture tomorrow.
