Today I by chance glanced at the dist. with late model housing, and realized it was shorter than usual between contact point on block and cap mount rim!  Measured it and yep, 1/4 in. less height.  Not important except to me.  You wouldnt believe how little room there is betwen the cap of a standard type dist. and the firewall.  Cramming in a wire and boot at the closest point requires technique!  Looking forward to making the change. 

Picked up a new vacuum advance at Carquest for 28.00.  Seemed like a lot but was the best deal between them, NAPA and AZ.

Where is the least expensive place to buy a vacuum advance?
Napa, O’Reilly’s or Autozone in my neck of the woods for vacuum advance chambers.  Just be sure to have your old one in hand to insure that it matches up to the new one.

I read somewhere that the rebuilders have ran out of the older housings are using a mustang housings with Y-block specs, hence the C5, C9 number.  My rebuilt distributor has the same triangular base.

Charlie that is my question also.  Different centrifugal weights perhaps?  Havent taken it apart to see.
