Re the Rod & Custom Y-Blk run down. Noticed a real glich in one recomendation. They reference an Offy Tri-power intake. Ditch that recommendation!. Ted's test of intakes found the Offy to be a "Dog". It finished dead last! Unfortunately, many years ago, Pop Hot Rodding in their Y-Blk buildup, used that very intake & made out favorite engine look bad...

Daniel: Sorry, I failed to notice the date of Earl's last posting. I'm aware that he is not with us... I believe his Son has on occassion taken his place, on this site, & I though it was him... However, I could be mistaken on that fact also. I need to pay better attention. My appologies if I offended anyone...

It appears to me that the info in webrodder is the same as Doc Frohmader's work in Street Rodder, which I found to be pretty good.

Paul, I know this is an older forum topic, and I believe that Earl wrote these posts a good while before he passed on. I have found the articles written by Doc pretty good...especially when you consider how far we have all progressed in 12 years. To be honest, it is very rare for me to read up on some articles and not find a few things that help in some way. The tips and tricks are always out there.

I might mention that photo copying good copies of all that info out of a dozen magazines, & puting it together, is no 10 minute job...So anyone wanting it should expect to pay accordingly..

Bird: You read the entire series fully in a weekend? I'm surprised you didn't find them that informative. Granted for someone who is a regular on this site, some of the the info isn't new. However, as a guide to a rebuild & some mods done in some sort of order, those articles were the best ever at the time, (keeping in mind that this site didn't exist at the time.) Not flawless and that magazine tended to contain missprints, but still the best series info ever available then. As for the results, the magazine used the engine as a giveaway at some promotional event. So, it wasn't ever run. Later Doc acknowledged that he & the mag got some heat about that fact... Some time after the similar series (2001-2) in Classic Truck magazine, a Dyno test was done for him on a somewhat similar engine with a 3 spd automatic, for a P.Up. It was a 296"/292. If I remember correctly (not sure?) The H.P. was 313 @ 5600 & 316 lb.ft.. So, the engine exceeded 1 h.p. / cu in. I believe that was the best perfomance build ever done by a major magazine on a Y-block at the time...

Photocopies of the series of articles you seek plus some other related info. are currently advertised on ebay. Search item 220788356438. This individual has been selling these regularly in the last 6 months at least.
I don't have these myself or I'd send 'em to you.
