Powerglide has finally found it's way behind the Y. Wilcap adapter is a high quality piece, but still needed some grinding to be able to work with Mopar mini starter. And some grinding had to be done to Powerglide too BigGrin.

Seppo.  Does the Wilcap adapter use their own flywheel?  Is there a hub that bolts to the crankshaft to allow the PG converter to adapt?

Ted, things are just the way you thought. Only problem at the moment is that because of that 6mm thick engine rear plate, we have to use either 6mm spacer with that wilcap spacer or we have to make a new one.

Here is couple of pictures about what was needed to make that starter work.

Wilcap adapter.

This is the view through starter hole at the adapter. Huge bump must be removed from Powerglides bellhousing.

This is how it looks afterwards. I had to grind over 1 inch deep to make that starter gear clear that housing. But, I think that doesn't make it too weak anyhow.

Starter housing interferes with one positioning pin at the adapter, so I had to grind some material off the housing.

From there...

And now it fits, but we have to lower the engine for couple of millimeters because the starter hits the frame tube. Not a good thing...w00t.

Probably a stupid question, but can't you rotate that starter motor. Away from the frame?

Well... yes and no. We don't have a crank in that mock up engine, so we don't know the actual position of the flexplate versus starter gear. And I assume that Wilcap has measured it so that it's ok at the center position. Also, I all ready had to open up the hole for the starter gear to make it spin freely. Upper attchment hole is tight and the lower has some space to move it a little bit sideways, but moving from the lower hole doesn't give us much more clearance. After we have that taller spacer, we can check it out. Lowering the engine is easy, just grinding some material off of the engine plates. We just have to double check the lining with rearend before doing anything stupid w00t.

FYI Ted used a Marine front cover and oil pan on the rear engine dragster. They are lighter and seem to adapt easily to a dragster setup. Take a look at:

Thank's Moonshadow. We'll give some thoughts to that cover also. Seems to me that we have Christmas here every now and then Smile. (Maybe, because Santa lives so close to us Wink)

Now we got delivery from Chassis Shop and from Mark Williams.

Something to build an A-arm front suspension and to get the steering wheel hooked with quick release hub.

The upper one is Mark Williams Jig fixture for getting the spindles to correct height and to decent caster and camber angle. Tubes are for building the steering shafts.

Unfortunately Strange doesn't sell it's cheap Funny Car steering box anymore, so we had to order one from Chassis Shop. It might be up here in Finland 8th of December. New Christmas is coming again... BigGrin.

Last week took FHRA:s (Finnish Hot Rod Association) cage supervisor precheck of our altered. Everything was OK so far but we can't go faster than 7.50 with that steel frame. w00t However that should be enough for us. Cool
